We were at the Yasukuni Shrine when the earthquake hit so we were in an open area away from any buildings. The M7.2 the day before the M9.0 didn’t bother me because I thought “It’s Japan, there is going to be earthquakes and I thought there would be aftershocks from it”. I didn’t expect there to be a stronger one. I live in Los Angeles and lived through some strong earthquakes but nothing like that.
