This is just sickening. I saw a video of a medic getting shot while he was tending to an injured opposition fighter. Shooting at you own civilians when they’re down…that’s detestable. It makes sense to me why these people want to distance themselves from Russia. The Ukraine was behind the Iron Curtain for the better part of a century, and Ukrainians want to form a relationship with Western Nations that were either never part of the USSR or became independent after its collapse. They’re pushing for change, but they get bullets in response…and I’m not saying Russians are bad or that they’re still harsh communists (although there is still a communist party). I’m just saying that I can understand why a country’s people wouldn’t want to be associated with a government that was oppressing them just over 20 years prior.

Do remember that it was the opposition protesters that started firing live ammunition first, and that dozens of police officers have been killed by gunfire while hundreds more are in hospital in critical condition. The protesters have legitimate complaints, but their methods aren’t exactly laudable either.

Last I read, as of the 18th, 13 officers were killed, compared to 100+ civilians. As for who fired first, we’ll probably never know due to the whole “he said, she said” factor. Regardless, isn’t firing on unarmed medical personnel considered a no no by the Geneva Conventions?

We need to wait for more information. Now the images are sickening, but temeber that those images are from the groups supporting the rebels, and The Guardian said it could not verify the video independently.
Fortunally, US nor EU will intervine, because if they do so, the consequences could be catastrophic. Can you imagine a war in the next door to Europe? While the US missiles get to Moscow, the russian missiles could destroy everything all the way until Spain. And let be honest, most protesters are being manipulated by EU, as Yanukovitch is manipulated by Putin. Nowadays even the europeans are sceptic of the EU, ask UK.
