“taken away what mattered” Wait… what?

Even if Twilight becoming a Princess really altered her role in the show, it’s not like that would destroy the show. There are many reasons why the show is liked the way it is, Twilight’s not the main one. At best, big fans of Twilight would get angry but that’s it.

Sure, some of the S3 episodes were pretty much like fanfics… Hell, EqG is pretty much FiM; Fanfiction: the Movie as written by McCarthy But they were very few in number and weren’t THAT bad, and S4 didn’t have that as a problem.

You’d think the “doom sayers” of MLP would’ve learned the Wait and See mentality when they started freaking out over Cadence being introduced as the third official Alicorn. She didn’t change anything, (she’s hardly even on screen for more than a second…)

It kind of would make the show decay a little if you think about it. The remaining five would get slow ass development and learn the same lesson over and over again, and Twilight would keep getting so much shit heaped upon her you might as well confirm that she’s the chosen one or something and have the “I AM JESUS!!” chant playing in the background whenever she’s around.

I’d kind of have to say that season 4 did have some fanfic-like material (Power Ponies, Draing Do being real, Flutterbat). In fact, stuff like that feels quite gimicky in my view.

I know the whole “doom saying” thing may seem a bit silly, but I think that some people, with the right balance, have the right to reserve judgment. And to fair, Cadence does kind of screw with the alicorn mythos, and anything that involves her, Shining Armor, or anything involving the Crystal Empire are probably the least interesting aspects of the show.

Well, I think he means bad fan-fiction. That, and when stuff like that is used in fan-fiction, it’s mostly for fun and “what-if” scenarios. It doesn’t really affect the show proper. When the show does it, however, the staff/Hasbro are the ones waving the canon stick, so it comes across as a little more than ridiculous, even by this show’s standards.

It’s not all of S3, but a good several.

I think the ones that stand out the most would be Putting Your Hoof Down and Magic Duel.

PYHD was obvious fan-service. I liked the episode, sure, but there’s no ignoring that it only happened because people liked Discord. It’s especially evident as him being “reformed” served no purpose nor was his friendship ever given any depth. (Yes, S4 finale and all that, but it was forced as all hell in that.)

MD was pretty much just a fanfic… (Still not a bad episode) The whole “Trixie returning for revenge” plot is half of the plots of any non-clop fanfic about her. And like PYHD, it really didn’t effect anything, she showed up then left without a single change in character or anything. Sure, her and Twilight could be considered “friendly” but that’s hardly anything worth noting for the time being.

Hell, I was surprised that they didn’t do an episode about NMM’s spirit coming back to take over… (Oh wait, the comics already sorta covered that one…)

I think you mean “Keep Calm and Flutter On”. PYHD was the Season 2 episode where Iron Will taught Fluttershy how to be assertive. But yeah, considering they’re not allowed to read fanfics, it’s highly coincidental that a few of the plots from S3 and S4 come off that way. Kinda makes you wonder if they’re breaking the rules…

As an aside, I had no emotional attachment to Golden Oaks Library, so its destruction didn’t really affect me all that much. The dialogue between Fluttershy and Discord was a lot more emotional, I thought.

I actually heard that KCaFO was actually based on a fanfic, and the person who wrote the screenplay was the person wrote said fanfic.

Also, MD was planned to be a season 2 episode, but it was pushed back.

As an aside myself, destroying the library kind of felt like what happened in Jurassic Park 3 with the T-Rex and the Spinosaurus. I know she’s royalty now, but did they really feel the need to destroy the library?

Well, besides the obvious. (Crystal Tree playset, Crystal Tree playset, Crystal Tree playset!!!!)

It was probably just a half-assed attempt to make Tirek look more like a serious threat… Like how a show/movie for older audiences would have him kill off a ton of nameless guards/ponies to make him look tougher. It effects nothing in the long run, but the “value” it holds is sorta there.
