Hey dude, sorry I haven’t been keeping up with this, I’ve been busy with school and stuff.

Anyway, for Day 2, here is Protect Your Neck by the Wu Tang Clan.

This was the breakout song of the Wu Tang Clan in 1993, earning them a huge reputation in the underground hiphop scene. This hardcore group made up of 9 members, RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa all took the scene by storm with this single. It showcases all of the MC’s vocal talents and vast differences in rapping style (which was incredibly novel and still is, having a group of 9 MCs who all sound very different.) not to mention most of them were from Staten Island, which was considered to be fairly talent devoid in the hiphop community.

This song is a great introduction to the type of production RZA was making, really simple beats combined with samples from old Kung Fu films of the time, which all the members were fans of. This song helped launch their still going careers, multiple videogames, and a gigantic clothing chain. This is one of the most influential rap groups ever and the song that got them on the map.
