They are expected to be a person that you’ll love more than anyone in the world, even though you’ve known your family and friends often for your entire life. The romantic relationship in perception and in how a person feels about it is entirely different from friendships.

Since friendships aren’t held in as much regard, I think that people expect friendships to be less exclusive, and they aren’t expecting as much from them as romantic relationships. I would think that the people one has as romantic partners would be more similar to each other (and more similar to you) than your friends and acquaintances are.

Yep, your romantic partner is someone special. There’s only one person that you’ll love that much in your entire life.

Unless you get divorced.

…or unless your spouse unfortunately passes.

Because you’ll move on and will think of your new spouse in the same way.
