Savvy could be a word for it, I suppose. A Ph.D. could be explained as a membership into a special club. The current members will do their absolute best to make your life hell getting in, but are usually very welcoming and supportive once you do. It can be tedious and stressful, depending on your degree.
My immediate family pretty much all have graduate degrees, so I really can’t say I know that feeling. It’s good you broke from family norms to go on to college, though. Overkill or not, I’m sure they’re proud of you and your accomplishments.
Public health is a good career to go into. I’m glad your internship went well, I know some people who had bad experiences and became really discouraged about their intended career path. As for the loan forgiveness program? You cannot imagine how jelly I am.
