The original Keyboard Cat video was created by performance artist Charlie Schmidt and uploaded to YouTube on June 7th, 2007. Then on February 2nd, 2009, Brad O’Farrell used a clip from Schmidt’s video to express a moment of Fail in his own video, “Play him off, Keyboard Cat.” Hundreds of clones followed, demonstrating the use of Keyboard Cat as an effective punchline to any awkward or painful situation.
