I’ve been playing this game for 7 hours straight. I haven’t gotten the hang of the medium or light classes yet, but I’ve gotten pretty good at the artillery I think.

My username is SupremeMuffin for those wondering.

Okay, so I just got a new computer.

Check my Wall for details. However, I haven’t gotten that TB XP500 set up yet. I won’t be on until I get that up and running.

Sorry for double post, but I’ve got my Turtle Beach Earforce XP500 up and running.

Time to go blow some stuff up!

PATCH 7.3 IS CURRENTLY BEING RELEASED!

So the server is down for a few hours.

Also, it’s military month so lots of gold offers and the FUCKING TYPE 59 IS BACK IN THE GIFT SHOP…..grumblegrumble

Also, it’s Victory Day offers so 50% off many tanks, 50% off equipment and a FREE DAY OF PREMIUM PLUS 5 FREE PREMIUM CONSUMABLES FOR EVERY NATION when you enter the bonus code.

Awesome.

On another note, I can’t quite figure this Turtle Beach headset out. I’m going to go over the User Guide again, see if I can’t get it fully operational.

EDIT: After checking out the Turtle Beach website, I found out that I got the wrong model. (facepalm) The one I got isn’t designed for PC use.

I have found one that is designed for PC, but for whatever reason, I wasn’t able to order online.

I’ll try again in a few days. In the mean time, I’m still sidelined.

BTW, about Patch 7.4:

Summary:

There will be several SPGs and Tank Destroyers added to the French line-up as well as one Medium tank. As usual, there are ongoing plans to add more tanks.

There will be two new Premium Vehicles added. One German TD and one Soviet Heavy.

We’re also planning on rolling out two new maps!
French SPG:

Renault BS
Lorraine 39 L AM
AMX 105 AM
AMX-13 F3 AM
Lorraine 155 (50)
Lorraine 155 (51)
Bat. Chatillon 155

French TD:

Renault FT AC
Renault UE 57
Somua Sau 40
S 35 CA
ARL V 39
AMX AC de 100
AMX AC de 120
AMX 50 Foch

French Medium:

Renault G1R

New Premium Vehicles:

Germany: Tier 8 Tank Destroyer
JagdTiger mit 8.8cm KwK 43 L/71
U.S.S.R.: Tier 8 Heavy Tank
Object 252/IS-6

New Maps:

Widepark
Airfield

Please note that the information stated above is subject to change.

I’ve known about those two new premiums for a while but I have no clue about all the french tanks the SPG based on the AMX 13. I’ve seen some of those in a couple documentaries but that’s it.

Also, with the Jagdtiger at Tier 8….who wants the the JagPanther? 0_o

ALSO Once this patch is out, I’m really really hoping that 7.5 has the new British tech tree! :(

Nah, KYM doesn’t have a Clan.

There really isn’t much incentive to get a clan unless you want to participate in the end game clan wars and that’s pretty hardcore stuff.

Not to mention that starting a clan costs like 2500 gold (about 10$ US)

THE BRITISH ARE COMING THE BRITISH ARE COMING!

The Black Prince (upgraded Churchill Tank)

Sherman Mk.III (aka M4A2) (most likely a premium tank)

And my favourite!
THE MOTHERFUCKING CENTURION!

Here’s the preliminary tree:

SO FUCKIN HYPED!

For some reason, my new computer can’t boot the game properly.

Maybe I’m just not patient enough with it or something, but the game itself doesn’t boot.

If I could get the game working, I’d be effin’ hyped about those British tanks. Sounds badass.

That’s a weird jump from tier 4 to tier 5 on the left side. Going from a light to a heavy is an odd jump. I hope it turns out good though.

May 31, 2012 at 05:34PM EDT

Just got a PzIII/IV! Woo! Really liking it so far, gives me a chance against those KVs.

7.4 has some things that are pissing people off:

*Rate of Fire for the T110E5 and M103 is being reduced (by about half a second)
*JagdTiger is being increased in size slightly
*Obj261 is being decreased in size slightly
*T30’s ROF slightly decreased
*M18 Hellcat’s turret turning speed is slightly reduced

And here’s the big one:

E-50 AND E-75 WILL NOW HAVE FRONTAL TRANSMISSION

What does that mean? Due to a game decision the transmission = engine so it possible now to destroy or even set on fire the engine from the front. :/

Other at least good features include:

New King of the Hill Style mode called “Encounter”

and

New Attack and Defend style mode called “Attack”

Also some more medals for ya to collect:

Expert: (by nation) – for destroying at least one example of each tank type, existing at that moment in the specified nation tech tree. Medal of Raseiniai Heroes: for destroying the whole enemy team (not less than 14 vehicles). Technical Engineer: (by nation) – for researching all vehicles, existing at that moment in a certain nation’s tech tree. Senior Technical Engineer: for researching all vehicles of all nations, existing at that moment. Sinai Lion: for destroying over 100 “IS” tanks of any model and vehicles based on its model.

Is the Medal of Raseiniai hero medal even possible?

Anyway, here’s a gif of the size change

Yeah, and I can’t believe the Brits get to start with a Medium. All others have to start with a Light.

Still, I’m guessing that the right side is the closest the Brits get to a “Light Tank” line on their tech tree. It still ends with Mediums, but oh well. Until they add British SPGs and TDs, it’s good enough for now.

Well, the French labeled the AMX 40 as a “light tank” so I’m not surprised with a tier 1 medium XD

What do you think’s going to happen at that point?

The question to ask is: “Who cares?”

Americans get Mediums at Tier II and French gets Heavies at Tier IV, no one complains about them because they are just words, the M2 Medium tank and the Char B1 both suck at their tiers.

Right then.

But I’ve got more bad news. I just went through their whole troubleshooter, accessed via the game’s launcher. I tried everything they suggested, repairing my installs of C++ 2010 and .NET Framework 4, installing Java, everything. I still can’t boot the game on this computer.

I may have to submit a trouble ticket.

Don’t forget that the Vickers has only 7mm of armour as well!

It’s best if you submit a support ticket, it’s awfully strange how the game is not loading for you.

7mm armor? Ah crap.

And yes, I just submitted a support ticket, complete with dxdiag and PingPlotter analysis files. Hopefully they get back to me swiftly.

But it’s the only Tier I with a 47mm cannon.

I expect it to be a glass cannon. One shot can kill another tank but it can only get off one shot before it dies.

I bet the .50 cal M2 on one of the low end American tanks or the 13.2mm Hotchkiss MG on one of the low end French tanks could kill the Vickers if it’s only got 7mm of armor.

Jun 01, 2012 at 12:53PM EDT

I just have to ask, since I’m thinking on it at the moment. How good are the German 88mm guns? Especially the higher end models?

Is it as much of a killer as it was during WWII? At least, against tanks from the war?

Jun 02, 2012 at 09:05AM EDT

There are three 88mm guns in the game:

88mm L/56 (aka short 88) historically mounted on the Tiger I: If you’re using this against tanks from the war such as the Sherman and T-34, you will rip them apart. It has good accuracy and RoF for a gun of it’s caliber but….you’re not gonna be facing M4s and T-34s. You’re gonna be facing Tier 6 to 9 tanks and the 132mm of penetration WILL NOT be adequate, you’ll have a hard time penning them, even from the side.

88mm L/71 (aka Long 88) historically mounted on King Tiger: Now this is a bit more like it. It has the same damage as the short 88 but much better penetration of 203mm which means you can penetrate all but the most heavily armored opponents in the flank and the gun is very accurate, allowing you to hit weak points at long range. For it’s tier it has good RoF as well. Overall, a very well balanced gun. It’s the final gun for the Tiger I and Panther II, but the King Tiger needs to b upgraded to the 105mm guns to be effective.

88mm L/100 (aka E50 88) non historic blueprint only gun: Most people who drive E50s go for the 10.5cm over the 88. This 88 only has a slight damage and pen increase over the L/71 (it pens for about 223mm) BUT these things set it apart:

1) It fires faster than any 88mm or comparable gun on a tier IX

2) It has the highest pen of any Tier IX medium tank with the exception of the Batchat

3) It is the most accurate gun in the game. Bar none. You can shoot fleas of tanks with this gun.

It’s lower damage means you need to put in a shell rammer so you can take advantage of the high DPS on this gun. But it’s awesome.

Jun 02, 2012 at 09:59AM EDT
Quote

Damn. I already like the L/100. Sniping as a Medium with a rapid fire gun. Sounds just like my style.

I’ll have to get grinding on the German Medium tank Tech Line. That just sounds awesome. And just what I want.

Have you ever driven the E50? What’s it drive like? How’s its turret? And perhaps most importantly, how’s its armor?

Jun 02, 2012 at 11:38AM EDT

I have not driven an E50, I’m currently on the Panther II and grinding towards an E50.

From what I heard of the E50, It’s great for stomping pubs but not cut out for Clan Wars or tournaments. Why is this?

The E-50 has better armour and firepower than the equivalent Tier IX mediums (Patton, T-54 and Batchat) and is much heavier than them as a result, which costs it speed and agility. It is still quite zippy FOR IT’S WEIGHT but compared to the T-54 and Batchat, it is a very large target.

Therefore, it is more of a pseudoheavy rather than a true medium. Instead of relying on flanking attacks, the E50 must support heavies by long range sniping.

Why is this bad in tournaments but good in random games? In Random games, Matchmaker will put you up against a roughly equivalent team and try to put an equal number of Heavies,TDs,Mediums,Lights and SPGs on every team.

In Tournaments and Clan Wars? You bring whatever tank you want, no class limits whatsoever. So why bring a Pseudoheavy like the E-50 when you can bring all E-100s or All IS-7s? If teams do need mediums, they take T-54s due to their speed so they can take out the enemy SPGs.

If you’re not keen on tournaments, the E-50 is a fine tank.

As for armour. It has 120mm of sloped armour which give it about 200mm of protection. Not bad but in Tier IX and X games will not protect you from the big tanks.

Good News? The E-50’s lower plate is just as strong as the upper plate. So it doesn’t have the weakness many german tanks have (The E-100, e-75 and KT all have the same weakness, lower plate.)

Bad News? The next patch is moving the E-50’s engine to the front :( Which means you can get an engine fire from a frontal shot

Jun 02, 2012 at 02:40PM EDT
Quote

Next patch is doing WHAT?! That’s bullshit!

Still, it does seem like it would be very useful. Gun doesn’t seem terribly underpowered, even if it is a bit small for its tier. And I wonder what the acceleration’s like with the 1200 hp Maybach engine you can get.

As far as actually being able to play the game, though, no one’s gotten back to me on my support ticket. I’m still unable to boot the game.

Jun 02, 2012 at 02:45PM EDT

Sorry to double post, but I just got a response to my support ticket.

Unfortunately, the “solution” I was given, disabling torrents, didn’t work.

I still can’t play the game.

Jun 02, 2012 at 03:28PM EDT

I got the game working again! Finally.

I’m going to test out two American “specialist” units, the T18 Tank Destroyer and the T57 Self Propelled Gun. Wish me luck!

Jun 03, 2012 at 08:56AM EDT

T57 is a great SPG to start learning arty. It actually has enough frontal armour to bounce some shots from Tier 1 and 2 vehicles!

The T18 has a really strong superstructure but the hull is weak. Find a good place to go hull down.

If you don’t mind me asking, what exactly was wrong?

I’d hit “Play” on the loader, but the game itself wouldn’t load.

Anyhow, I tried getting back into the game in my pathetic little T1 Cunningham, now I’ll see if I can’t make use of the T18 or T57.

Jun 03, 2012 at 09:45AM EDT

Tested out the T18 and T57 a bit ago. Not to my liking. I guess I could get used to the American turreted Tank Destroyers, but SPGs are completely not my style.

Still, they’re not bad vehicles. They just aren’t my style.

Jun 03, 2012 at 02:32PM EDT

Okay, so I’ve Elited all four starter tanks.

I also sold off all of my SPGs and TDs. I two of each, one each from the US (T18 TD, T57 SPG) and one each from Germany (Panzerjager 1 TD, Sturmpanzer 1 Bison SPG). I just don’t care much for either class.

I’m now trying to determine which nation’s the best for me. I think I might try to go through the American TD line again, just focusing on the turreted TD line and aiming for a T30. But as far as a primary nation, I haven’t decided yet.

With what I know of heavies, I doubt I’ll focus on them. They just seem too sluggish for me. I don’t like being little more than a mobile bunker. I doubt I’ll do lights, either, since they just aren’t tough enough to survive being at the front. Odds are, I’ll specialize in mediums, but as for nation…

  • The Germans are slower, bigger, more well armored, but prone to module damage and armed with smaller guns from what I hear. Still, German guns are damn accurate and relatively quick to boot.
  • Soviets are faster, aren’t they? And I’ve read stories about how the T-54 can dominate the battlefield. It’s just that I don’t know if they’re armored well enough. I also have my doubts about the accuracy of some Soviet guns.
  • French mediums start out tough but slow, with weak guns. Then they get auto-loaders and speed, but trade those for armor. I doubt I’d much like that. Still, lots of damage in a short time. Might be fun to try.
  • American mediums are rather well rounded, at least compared to the other nations, from what I’ve read. I just have my doubts about the M3 Lee. I didn’t much care for SPGs or TDs, so I doubt I’d much like the Lee. The alternative is to go through the American Light Tank Line and get an M5 Stuart, but tier 4 lights get put in matches with tier 9 mediums and heavies from what I’ve read. I doubt I’d be able to survive that. Still, might be worth the effort if the M7 is any good.

The M7 MT is good but it functions more like a light, with a fast firing high pen cannon that does little damage. The Soviet mediums have laughable armour until th T-44 and T-54 where the Armour is respectable. The T-54’s turret in particular is incredibly armored.

Jun 05, 2012 at 06:07PM EDT

I just played a “Random Battle” on Himmelsdorf in my little T1 Cunningham.

Four kills.

You read right, four kills.

I started off by heading up the hill and then coming down the other side of it. I got to the enemy base where I found an enemy T1. I shot him up bad, reduced him to 20-something HP and tracked him before I had to reload my 37mm Browning, but he escaped before I could fire again. However, I rounded the corner and finished him off.

Then I went down the road that runs across the map east to west out in front of the enemy base and tore up two Renault FT-17s. I felt like a badass just ripping through my rounds and tearing apart anything in my way. I bet it shocked the hell out of them that a lowly T1 Cunningham would charge them like that.

I don’t recall what the other kill was, or whether it came before or after I took out those two Renaults. But I know I got a fourth kill in there somewhere.

In all, I earned over 2k EXP on this little rampage. I’m gonna remember this one.

Jun 07, 2012 at 11:18PM EDT

Did you get a mastery badge?

Though remember, the hill is only for fast tanks. Later in the game as tanks get heavier, you’re gonna waste a lot of time climbing up that hill so don’t do it in a heavy. Some of the enemy heavies will go up the hill as well so you need to delay them as much as possible! because Heavies are meant to be fighting in the streets below and they’ve left their forces down their seriously underpowered.

Renault FT-17s are bad in armor and speed, so rushing them probably wasn’t too hard. They can pack a punch though, so you might have taken more of a risk than you thought. My first battle in an FT I got a kill. Then afterwards I abandoned the French line because it isn’t worth it to me to have to sift through multiple bad tanks just to reach a good one.

But, that’s a nice achievement! T1s are pretty good tanks.

Thanks. Yeah, the FT’s 25mm is a killer at long range. These two guys, I think they were sniping, ’cause they were on elevated positions. But I think the FT-17 is pretty damn tough, at least in terms of getting rounds through their armor.

Now, don’t get your hopes up too high. Once you hit T2 and T3, you’re going to be put in matches with T5s and T6s quite often. It’s a lot tougher in the middle tiers, but it seems to get a tad better once you reach T5.

Also, if you guys want to introduce new players to the game, Wargaming.net has teamed up with FPS Russia to give all new players an invite code.

A new player inputing the code “HAVENICEDAY” will get 1000 free gold.
