and i can easily imagine Octavia playing this piece. so far, one of my favorites out there.
(been getting into classical music lately. not that it’s bad or anything)

1. As said before, she is standing bipedally and holding a bow with her hoof, thus making her stand out from the rest of the quartet. Add to that that her positition is also one of the center positions, making her appear more important.
2. I wouldn’t really call her instrument that important, although she does still stand out the most. When it comes to classical music, I really love the violin and the piano. Both allow for great, more fast paced, sections. The piano being present but the violin not, I still like Octavia more than that piano player. Her instrument is also the only one that hasn’t received any changes so that ponies can use it compared to the versions humans use, making it appear more natural. That is an important factor to how bronies look at them, it gives Octavia a closer relation to humans indirectly.
3. Her female part certainly is important. The most amount of characters on the show are still female. Plus given that most bronies are male, it’s pretty simple math.
4. Looks are indeed important. All those four ponies gained the personality of being more classical ponies. With that a more classical look of course have to come. The two most right ponies have a somewhat weird color combination when it comes to classical music, coming more closer to the “pastal colored” theme of the standard pony. Plus their manes are also pretty standard. Of the two remaining ponies, Octavia is the female. Going back to point 3, this already gives her an advantage. Plus her somewhat grey coat with black mane really make her appear as a more cool and classical type of pony. Add to that her unique mane compared to your standard background pony, and you have a popular fanonization.

If I would look at the four without knowing their fanon connections, if I was an artist I would prefer to draw Octavia based on the looks. Knowing the actual artists might think like this as well, it makes sense that more fanart of her appears. Fanart is of course also a very important factor in the brony culture. As for background ponies, they often decide how we look at them.

You know what surprises me is actually how many Mexican bronies there are. I don’t know why I find that interesting. Maybe it’s because the show is so different in my mind from TV shows that are made domestically in Mexico.

While most bronies are from the US, at least, if the Equestria Daily map of how many people accessed their site for the 200,000,000 hits is accurate, that doesn’t mean Britain has very few. They actually have a lot. If what I hear is true, it’s already surpassed popularity as opposed to the Twilight Saga (finally, Sparkly Twilight is more popular than Sparkly Vampires, and it’s official)

That will happen on any search engine. Safe Searches can never be 100% accurate because computers can’t reliably distinguish the content of pictures like a human brain can. Google is probably just using some complex mix of tagging, related sites, search histories, and other info to determine what is and isn’t R34, and that’s always going to be prone to mistakes. Obviously, the more of it that there is, the more likely that one or two will slip through the net.

I have a question for you all…
If there was a one way portal to equestria, and you could only bring one person or thing with you, what/who would you bring? The portal is a 7 feet x 7 feet square, so you can’t bring anything smaller than that (just in case someone answers “my house” because that includes more items in it like your video games, your bed, clothes, etc.)

I’d stay on this side of the portal. Sure there are ponies on the other side BUT GODDAMN I’D PROBABLY GET EATEN BY A HYDRA BEFORE MEETING ONE!

As it stands, he’s probably a better defense against manticores, hydras, and other predators than an AK-47 would be, if I know him. So, not only is he my best friend and family, but’s he also a sound tactical advantage against every living thing in Equestria. He also likes ponies.

I’d bring a Portal gun, but before I go, I’ll shoot a blue portal down on Earth, and then once I’m in Equestria, shoot an orange portal on a wall.
Now I have an infinitely standing Portal that I can use to travel between the two locations. I’ll bring my possessions, and anyone who wants to come, and then close it.

Portals only work on certain surfaces, if the game was to be believed. The white panels were apparently designed for the sole purpose of carrying portals. I doubt they have similar panels in Equestria, judging by their technology, and you can only bring one object, so you can’t bring a panel yourself.

I would bring a very, very expensive laptop with lots of memory. Before leaving I’d call a meeting with all of the greatest academics on Earth (considering I’d have access to an interdimensional portal with oddly specific luggage rules, I doubt it would be hard to convince people to help me out), and we’d they’d discuss what to download onto it. I doubt you can fit the internet into a 7’ box, so the next best solution is to have the Equestrians invent it themselves.

considering that i don’t own much in the first place (all the clothes i usually wear are in a closet about 5 feet tall and around 2 feet wide, this computer, a laptop, all the video games and misc. CDs/DVDs sitting in a old CM box that came with my PSU, my phone, and some other small stuff that’s just sitting around in my room, and i can simply steal my dad’s .12 gauge shotgun along with some ammo..you know, for those not-so-friendly creatures just in case i end up in the Everfree Forest.)

I can cram them all inside a box big enough to fit through a 7 × 7 foot square portal, push it in there and jump in last, and be on my way. hell, i can probably sell some of the junk i have for some extra bits, and get myself a cheap house in Ponyville… and get a job in the Sugar Cube Corner. (i’m fully capable of baking anyway)

And once i’m settled in, I’d probably ask Twi to come up with a spell to establish an internet connection to earth, and brag via the internet that i’m in Equestria now.

I’m more surprised by her occasional bouts with sanity.

As for your choice of instrument, go with the acoustic guitar. We’ve never seen evidence that Equestria has electric guitar technology (Cutie Mark Crusader song excluded) and you could always steal Octavia’s cello/bass if you wanted to.

Portals can only be sustained on certain surfaces, one of which is anything coated in white gel which just happens to be made of ground-up moon rocks. In a universe with Luna, those would probably be rather easy to get. You’d just need the gun!

If I were to answer seriously (where’s the fun in that?!), I’d say something similar. Computer loaded with info and tech to bring Equestria into the modern age. They seem to have bits and pieces like simple video games, but computers, television, internet, etc. need to happen, too.

So, am I the only one mentally unstable enough to do this, or do you guys ever find yourselves talking to the ponies while watching an episode? Normally, I’m happy to just sit there giggling like a little bitch, but sometimes a passion seizes me that I feel compelled to vocalize. I can think of three notable instances.

1: When Dash and Spike were trolling Twilight when she was trying to stand still for a week. I kept repeating “You guys are bad friends, you guys are bad friends.” while wearing a big stupid grin. This was one of those weird instances where Dash does something dickish which I find to be somehow endearing.

2: The mane six were sitting around having a discussion and I felt the need to contribute my two bits. Rarity wouldn’t stop talking however, so I paused the video and told her “shut up, I’m trying to say something” I felt kind of bad about that though, so I curtly apologized and made my point.

3: Fluttershy gave Pinkie and Rarity that Brutal verbal beat down, what I found to be one of the most emotionally powerful moments of the entire series. So as she is trashing Rarity and Pinkie’s special talents, I felt the need to all but yell “Bitch, you run a fucking animal shelter. This episode opened with you getting bitchslapped by a motherfucking rabbit!”

You know, I don’t think Fluttershy ever adequately apologized for that either. That shit was pretty brutal.

I can’t remember ever talking directly to the characters, but I do recall a very distinct ‘Did she just say?!’ when Rainbow Dash said Derpy’s name and a whole lot of ‘No freaking way!’s during Derpy’s lines followed by at least five minutes of alternating between stunned silence and ridiculous giggling. As I recall, that was back when the episode synchtubes were broadcasting at 5 a.m. Pacific time and I had stayed up all night to watch it live. My brain was so out of it that, I kid you not, my first thought when Derpy spoke was ‘Did someone slip a fan animation into the livestream?’
It took the rest of the episode for me to accept that that had actually happened, then I watched it at least two of three more times!

I remember watching it and even though I was amused by the whole thing, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was going to come of this.

Score one for my psychic powers.

You know, the Last Roundup was a really well done episode, easily in my top 5 favorite. Everything about Pinkie being used to torture Applejack was just priceless, the dialogue, the musical score adding dramatic tension. Then there was the part where Pinkie turned into THE FREAKING DEVIL over the broken Pinkie promise. Hell, they even managed to genuinely intrigue me as to why AJ hadn’t come home for awhile before bringing in the boring old “I didn’t get first prize” thing.

It’s really a shame that everyone only remembers it for the Derpy lines and the later, ugh, alterations.

I am here to challenge you to find ‘pony’ of something I seriously have never seen ponified. Or even had been suggested to be ponified.
An adorable game called LcDDeM. The ‘character’ in question I would like to see in pony mode is Chie. The ‘protagonist’ if you wish to call her that.

No, can’t say I ever really did that, but thanks for the hilarious mental scene! Particularly your conversation with Rarity, that’s priceless (and no, I’m not being sarcastic).

However, about number three…

You just don’t understand her pain, you heartless monster.

In all seriousness though, I’m starting to feel like I’m the only one who found Putting Your Hoof Down to be outrageously OOC for Fluttershy. It just makes no sense that a pony who was all “Were we arguing? I’m sorry…” in season one would hand out such a tongue lashing to her closest friends after spending a few hours with Hercule Satan. Discord, I can understand, but this? Yes, I understand that a show like this doesn’t really take it that seriously, but what can I say, good characterization is one of the things I fell in love with in FIM. There’s only one possible explanation.

*Note: I do think her other episodes, namely, The Mysterious Mare Do Well, Hearth’s Warming Eve, and Dragon Quest were all fantastic.

What in the world are we coming to when all we admire in someone is their flaws? Applejack isn’t perfect by any means; but her many character strengths are precisely why I think she’s awesome. I happen to really like a character that’s stable and sane. Crazy ponies may be good for a gag or ten, but the more reasonable your characters are, the higher the chances are for more complex and deep story-writing, if you ask me.

Very true. Don’t forget the awesome I Love Lucy scene in the middle, and the simultaneously exciting and silly chase scene at the end. Lots of great stuff in there, although it does bring up the whole ‘AJ is best background pony’ thing. Even in an obvious AJ episode, everyone remembers Derpy and Pinkie most of all. In my opinion, Rarity said it best in Sisterhooves Social:

Frankly, AJ is just too ‘good’ to be all that interesting, or for me at least. She’s typically the voice of reason and the one most likely to take a step back from the crazy her friends display. While she fills a vital role in the structure of many episodes by doing so, it’s the more apparent flaws that other characters have that make them more appealing and entertaining to watch.

Think of it this way: her fatal flaw is that she works too hard. Some of the others, like Pinkie, have self-esteem/multiple personality issues. She’s just too perfect compared to the others, and being too perfect usually makes them a Mary Sue rather than a good character.
I personally think AJ’s perfectly fine, if not underloved and I hope to see more of her in season 3.
