So it started reading deathnote equestria and let me just begin by saying that the only thing I knew about the anime/manga was the potato chip thing. Anyways, I gotta say that I’m getting pretty mad at twilight. I’m not quite on the L’s side just yet because 1) it’s twilight 2) I can understand where she is coming from, I mean, some people just don’t deserve to live anymore in my opinion( which is why I love dexter and sided with Gerard butler in law abiding citizen to name a few). Still, twilight is on some kind of power trip it seems. She is killing like crazy and shows no remorse when she kills the innocents tracking her down. That’s what bothers me. I guess it is partly do to the fact that with the deathnote, you only have to write the victims name down. You are so detached from the persons death that it leaves you with a god complex. So much power that it corrupts. It’s not like how dexter has to work for the kill and ultimately stab his victim, seeing first hand all the emotions. The user of deathnote is emotionally detached from the ordeal. I hope twilight doesn’t share the same fate as whatever his name is, but I don’t know how she can live with the blood of good ponies on her hands.

So, anyways, I just finished reading the entire TVtropes page for TF2, as well as all the comics.

I can safely say something with full confidence:

Funny is that the choosing of a side is an issue with most of the Death Note fans. The anime is really the same. Light Yagami receives the Death Note and wants to cleanse the world of evil by killing all the criminals through the death note, creating a world without crime where he will be a god.

So you can see how that creates issues with the fans. Criminals deserve punishment, but is Light’s way really the correct one? I won’t continue to discuss this now, as it’s a pony thread.

But yeah, as you described some stuff, that’s the same as in the anime/manga. Light goes on a power trip (wanting to become a god) and kills with no remorse, getting him more corrupted over time. The creator of that fanfic of course wanted to put that element in the fic. You can’t claim it a Death Note parody without those elements being present.

But I really recommend you to watch the anime some day. I personally loved it, simply because of the atmosphere they created. It’s also the only anime where I recommend the English voices. For some reason, to me, those do a great part to the atmosphere.

I’ve never been a fan of anime besides Pokemon, but that is one of my favorite topics( vigilante justice and the moral issues behind it) so I’ll give it a shot.
Just to make it clear, I’m on twilights side, but I’m still slightly bothered by some of her actions.

Sadness…..

Most fans are on Light’s side, even if they don’t agree with everything he does. He is still the main character of the show. But to call him a protagonist or antagonist is a different thing.

And don’t worry about your dislike in anime, the show doesn’t use the stereotypical anime style (big eyes and stuff), nor is it “moe” or “kawaii”.

Light’s fun to root for, but L is the best character. He was awesome, mysterious, insightful, and a down right genius. The way light beat him was awesome, but ever since then, I haven’t been motivated to read/watch the rest.

LUNAR DAWN UPDATE

Just fair warning: as the story’s coming along, it’s NOT a direct-adaptation. Rather, the story is going to be, if anything, loosely based on Red Dawn, to explain things better and also for dramatic effect and artistic license. So, there will be little word-from-word dialogue, and some added stuff. However, I assure you it will be great. Most of the changes dealt with making the plot of Red Dawn (if any of you saw the movie, you would say it wasn’t the greatest movie ever…), so, most story elements are still there, but don’t be surprised if an even is added or one is changed (not much) to fit the setting more.

Regarding Dac and Death Note Equestria:

I haven’t read the fic, but I’ve seen a good bit of the anime (up to that one certain part with L), and that’s one of the themes in the series. If anything, that’s a sign the author is doing his part pretty well.

I’ve only seen three animes total. But Death Note is very serious and dark, unlike other animes. So I’d recommend it as well.

Alex S. made a remix to his “Party With Pinkie” song. Since I’ve seen the original posted on the PG’s about 5 times, I thought you people would want to know. He added “Smile” and some other Pinkie songs to it basically. I haven’t listened to it yet, I just saw this on my youtube page and decided to put it here.

I just love watching how the fandom utterly confuses the rest of the world. The way they struggle to make sense of it by coming up with theories of “escapism”, “childishness” or “attachments” especially amuses me. They try so hard to sound like they know what they are doing with such deep theories but in reality they almost always miss the point by magnitudes

Nobody ever seems to use Occams razor, which in this case is: People like a show and a community.

I guess it is no surprise, since its a politically based show but I loved the way they tried to explain the fandom with current politics: I.E: “Men are watching a kids cartoon because of terrorists, failing economy and poor goverment leadership” ….BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The Things We Leave Behind

Shit was sad, happy, sweet, d’aw, awesome, badass, kickass, neat-o, and other adjectives. Awesome fanfic is awesome. Took me an hour to read, too, so it isn’t too long.

If you don’t have balls of steel, prepare yourselves to be murdered by the feels.

There’s a teeny bit of shipping, but it only makes the ending even sadder.

Highlight for opinions.

It was certainly sad, but I didn’t cry like I did all throughout Bittersweet. I didn’t shed a tear.

I think that sad fics are made sadder by our attachment to innocent characters that we know and love so much. Shipping adds a level of attachment between the characters that isn’t normally seen among “just friends,” unfortunately. But it doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. It was pretty well-written, although I didn’t like the unforgiving approach to Trixie. Hopefully, once I’m done with stuff, I’ll be able to read more sad fics. Because I’m a sick freak like that.

Anyway, thanks for the link, Lasers. And for making reading this thread a less painful experience for me…See thread title.

@Eightball: That’s nothing. I stay up that late EVERY night. I’ve pulled an all-nighter playing Skyrim, and I’ve stayed up to about 3 am looking at ponies.

Strangely enough, I had a pony dream that night.

I read that too, much like any fic that gets put on Eq D’s homepage with a “sad” tag. I didn’t cry at all whilst reading it, but it was pretty well-written. Maybe it was because I was listening to some non-fitting music at the time or I’ve developed a resistance to this stuff. Maybe I should try reading it again. Overall, it was a nice mixture of sad and sweet.

I’m not too big of a fic-reader, as I’ve stated before, but I tend to be into sadfics a good bit because the conflict is either really tragic (someone dies, disaster strikes, etc.), really deep (growing up, growing apart, love, etc.) or in Things We Leave Behind and Bittersweet’s case, both.

That being said, I still haven’t read “My Little Dashie” and I’m not too sure if I want to. I tend to be very reluctant to read humans in Equestria fics and vice versa.

Has anyone else noticed that there appears to be a massive amount of sadfics written recently? I think it might be related to the end of the season. Not that I’m complaining, I love sadfics, but it’s getting a bit too much to handle for me.

For those looking for something deep, I would recommend Eternal and And the Temptress Came Unto Her. They’re both by the same author. Eternal is one of the best fics I’ve ever read, but take in mind that it’s pretty long (don’t read it all in one sitting like I tried to do). And the Temptress Came Unto Her is a little bit longer than Things We Leave Behind. It’s basically a very in-depth look at Twilight’s goals and ambitions.

I think I’m starting to become a fan of Device Heretic’s. He was also writing a prequel to Eternal named “Wayward Knight” but he took it down for whatever reasons. Which is too bad, because it was also getting pretty good. It took place shortly before Luna became Nightmare Moon, so you got to see a really dark side of Luna.

He also wrote a comedy and shipfic that didn’t make it onto Eq D. He should probably stick to the deep, dark, sad stuff.

It was so goddamn sad that I had to think of Ol’ Yeller to help stop the tears. It’s not the most perfectly written story, but it has a lot of emotion and deepness to it, and there have been readings of it on Youtube.

Suffice it to say, manly tears were shed the world over.

It’s times like these I hate my parents for getting rid of Netflix streaming.
