Anyways, what’cha think?

If they’re not at least 18, most of us are in trouble.

Seriously though, I think they are young, but definitely not children. Most of them live in their own houses for crying out loud. I’m gonna say they’re 18.

Oh wait, Fluttershy said she was a year older than Pinkie Pie, so that would make her 19.

The ages of the mane 6 mostly depends on your own headcanon. Personally, I think they’re between the ages of 18 and 22. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie being the youngest, and Rarity being the oldest (seeing as she has her own business).

@le discussion:
I take it the mane 6 are most certainly at least over 18, besides maybe Pinkie they all seem like full grown adults too. And as Spitfire recently informed us, a pony’s voice isn’t any particular indication of their age.

The CMC and other foals of their age group seem like they’d be around 10 years old, I know it’s a cartoon, but they seem too smart to be any younger.

Very well…..I shall endeavour to bury the hatchet. Let us follow this guide:

@*Age Discussion*:

I think the only thing that Lauren ever gave us were that they were “young adults”. Of course, that gave a whole lotta discussion involving the ages of real life ponies and everything but…. I think it’s safe to say that we shouldn’t over think this:

18-22 is the best guess.

SO ANYWAYS, I never got to ask this yet:
Is the finale a two-parter or just one episode?

I don’t think the finale has been leaked yet so nobody knows that at this point.

Though going by tradition, I’m willing to bet it’s a two parter.

Eh…

Well…

Rainbow Dash doesn’t have any problem using people’s roofs as entrances….

Anyways, what’cha think?

Actually we have discussed that topic quite a few times before. Each time, most people seem to be able to agree than the mane 6 are early twenties or late teens (pony-human age approximation) based on Laurens Word-Of-God that they are young adults (that usually means 18-22 as Phoneix said). But nobody can really pinpoint an exact age. The show never gives exact details but does show the characters to be independent and mature (relatively), they contrast heavily with fillies so they can’t just be kids

Closest hint we ever got is that Fluttershy is slightly older.

I’d guess age along these lines (human equivalents again, I’m not getting into all that horse-years mumbo jumbo) based on the level of responsibility, maturity and wisdom each character shows:

Rarity: 22-26
Fluttershy: 20-24
Twilight: 20-23
Applejack: 19-21
Dash: 18-22
Pinkie: 18-19

Or maybe we just hope they are over 18, because if they aren’t…oh boy…

How old do you think the Mane 6 are? I suppose they’re around 16-18, and Celestia calls Fluttershy a “child”, but heck, she’s like 1000 years old.
Anyways, what’cha think?

Facts:

1- Almost all of them have jobs.
2- Twilight seems to have a education schedule more akin to College/University than High-school. As she doesn’t even have to attend.
3- Their Parent seem to be absent from their day to day lives.

So I think all of this points to them being at least 18.

… Everyone already figured this out.

Of course, apart from that, we can make as many theories as we want. Everything from how their years and that work, to who knows.

My pet ones are that they would actually live longer than humans (By logic that since they’re magic they would.) But due to time essentially being dictated by pretty much arbitrary systems, as opposed to celestial movement, a year for them might be two years for us. Or more. As they can decide that years can be whatever they need them to be.

They may even have a skewed or variable Day length. They may have some days that last about 100 hours, and others that last only 19 hours. Depends how much sun they need that day, how tired Celestia is, and whether she took her coffee that day; or even if Celestia is feeling playful, she may even speed through the day.

… But that’s not important, what we do know is they are equivalent to young adult age. By which with us means over 18.

The idea that time is skewed by how long a goddess sleeps is interesting though, so here’s Sleepy ’Tia.

Did you guys notice that in the long and akward hug scene of the last episode Pinkie Pie sounds like a balloon that gets stretched and scratched?

Listen closely:

Her cutiemark consists of three balloons, but perhaps she is some kind of balloon herself:

And another background sound from Sleepless in Ponyville:

Now compare this to the turkeycock sound from Age of Empires.
Listen and repeat

I think they made a “Scootaloo is a chicken” joke in this episode;)

@Verbose
I just thought that the snugglehug is the cutest thing since milkshakes – no messing around intended.

Now onto more important news about everyone’s favorite subject: ME!
As some of you may or may not be aware, I’ve taken up vector tracing over the past few months, just as a bit of a hobby for the fun of it.
Predictably, even since Sleepless in Ponyville, I’ve been cranking out quite a lot of Scootaloos and earning a modest number of ‘favorites’ for my efforts.
Since I know that my work is nothing exceedingly special, I’ve been making a point of thanking anyone who favorites one of my vectors.
Well, I was going through my list of notices this morning when I spied something quite unexpected:
Holy crap!

What if Celestia made the whole Nightmare Moon thing just to get an extra sleep?
Anyways, according to me, it goes like this:
Pinkie Pie: 17
Fluttershy- Twilight- RD: around 18
Applejack: 19-20
Rarity: 21 and up

We talking about ages here? Let me chime in.

Like many said, all 6 ponies have jobs, live on their own, and make a living. I’d put them between 18-24. Here are my thoughts on all 6

Twilight Sparkle – in the first episode, you see her as a student, and she did have that conversation with the other ponies in the beginning of that episode before heading to the library or something. I’d say 19 or 20.

Pinkie Pie – I think she is the youngest of the bunch…I’ll put her around 18 or 19.

Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy – well, both were in the same class at flight school. I’d put both around 19 or 20.

Applejack – I think she is much more mature compared to other ponies and more hard-working. Not sure about farming in real life. I know many kids in farming families have to make the decision whether to go to college or stay on the farm when they graduate high school. I’d say she’s around 21.

Rarity – I think she is waaay too obsessed with working. And clothing design…you don’t learn that within a day. Call me crazy, but I think she’s 23 or even 24.

That’s my theory. All I know is they can’t be kids. There’s just too much going on for them to be kids.

As for the three cutie mark crusaders, they’re probably equivalent to elementary school kids…I’d say 10-12. Probably 12

They’re all the same age besides Fluttershy, who is a year older. They were all the same exact same size during the Sonic Rainboom besides Flutters, who was a bit bigger. She told Pinkie she was a year older, as well. So, judging by that, I’m assuming the others are the same age. I’ll go ahead and say 18-ish for all but Flutters, and 19 for her.

@DeadParrot:

Neat.

@Snugglehug:

One moment…

Geez, I’m sure glad that stopped everybody’s hearts so nobody can accost me for going over the image cap.

So I’m just sitting on my bed, then. Suddenly, this totally whacked-out, bipedal creature jumps out of the closet and hugs me! Embarrassingly, I give a startled whinny, before grabbing this animal with my magic and lifting it into the air. I’ve grabbed it by… what appear to be its feet, so it’s dangling upside-down, but I can still get a good look at it. It’s wearing a lot of clothes, far more than any of my friends, even Rarity. It doesn’t have much of a mane: the hair on top of its head is cropped pretty short and it doesn’t even run down the back of its neck, and there isn’t a tail to be seen. It smiles at me, but it’s teeth aren’t the wide, rough teeth that I have. It looks more adapted to eating meat, and for a moment, I’m terrified this thing is going to eat me until it sets aside my fears with smooth, velvety words.

“You’re me! We are one and the same! Isn’t that just dandy!” it says. Its voice is definitely male, and it speaks fluent Equestrian.

“B-buh,” I stutter. “What are you? How can we be the same? You aren’t even a pony!”

“I know, right?” he says, gesturing widely with his… arms. “That’s because you’re like the pony version of me!”

Suddenly, it dawns on me. This thing is very familiar – it’s a Man, those characters in that little fillies’ show, My Little Human. Admittedly, I’m a bit of fan. A lot of us are, and some members of the fandom like to draw themselves as humans. I did it once, but I cast the piece of paper aside without giving it any more though once it had given me a good laugh. Immediately, I regret it, though I seem to have done a good job.

“So you’re… a human… me?” I ask, head titled unsurely.

“Yeah!” He seems very excited, his voice sounding very similar to Braeburn’s, and I suppose to my own. “You drew me back in, like, February, a few months after you got into the fandom, once you finally made your deviantArt account!” His eyes wander about my room, falling on the pastel walls and friendship-shaped rug. “So…” he wanders. “Who’s your favorite human? Like, canon human?”

I mull the question over in my mind, hoof idly tapping my chin as my eyes narrow. It takes a few seconds, but I’m confident in my answer. “Gabe Newell.”

Meeting your pony-self would be an odd experience.
Obviously, it would begin with mutual awe and wonder at the discovery of a near-perfect doppelganger.

Next, you’d probably move onto something fun.

Of course, since everyone’s biggest enemy is always themselves, any relationship with your other-self would surely devolve into a rivalry.

Unfortunately, I can never create a “stable” OC (pun coincidental); at least when it’s meant to be me. It’s not because I’m bad at it, it’s just I don’t have a single consistent identity. And the only common feature I can agree on is “Androgynous”, cause I can’t even decide on male or female.

As such, it would probably take me a while to figure out that it would be me. And afterwards, I’d probably be in awe at how fate had determined the appearance, and the arrival.

…Then I’d probably go to sleep with (her?) in my arms, cause chances are I’m still tired.

If (she?) sticks around, then I’d probably spend a lot of time talking about our shared identity, trying to figure out what exactly it is. As protean as it seems to be.

Then… I guess I don’t know… All I can think of is “Shenanigans”, but I can think of what kind of shenanigans. Depends on whether I end up with Pegasus or Unicorn. But I’m not even sure which (she?) would end up as. I’m sure Pegasus is what I want, but I also think that Unicorn may fit my personality better. I don’t know. And Alicorn is probably right out unless I turn out to be the idealization of the Dark Void between the stars, the good kind, not the bad kind. (I don’t say Darkness or Night or Moon, since that’s Kinda taken.)

As for the question of “making love” with pony me… I think it would take a month or two of stroking and hugging, and other rubbing before getting to anything close to that. I’m not the kind that enjoys getting to the point, I’m somewhat… Glacial… And the fact that I haven’t even met a real life person that I found attractive is a monument to the slow speed I have with relationships.

Anything I missed?

Clearly all this adds up to: “What would I do? Not Much.”

If any of you have ideas on what kind of Pony OC/Ponysona I end up with, I am all ears.

Just on that note, a pony OC doesn’t actually need to resemble you. Mine doesn’t. Try basing your OC on something else other than yourself if you are having trouble in that department,

You sound preferable to a female character though so go with that. Appearance and style being a mixture of different things with only the only identical attribute to you being mindset, personality, attitude and character etc…

Wow, you went all the way on this one.

I don’t think that was part of the question but lets go there anyway. I’m sure you wouldn’t be that awkward about it, after all you found you, your own perfect match. The anatomy may be different but the spirit is beyond compatible leaving the mind less apprehensive than one would expect of themselves. Plus you know how you think, it would be on her mind as much as yours.

It’s the question that will appear in every situation where you meet your own clone and it will continue burning until answered. Eventually you will get right into it, trust me.

I don’t have an OC pony, so let’s just say a pony version of me appears in my room, jumps on my bed, and gives me a hug. My first thought would be ‘What the fuck? Am I dreaming?’

After a long awkward silence, pony me will say “Aren’t you going to ask who I am and where I came from?”

I’d be all like “Yeah. Sure. Whatever.” Of course, I’m not paying attention to anything he’s saying. I’d be thinking of all the possibilities of what I can do with a pony version of me.

I wait for him to stop talking and I say “Wanna play Soul Calibur?” (Yep, that’s my imagination.)

He says “Have you been paying attention to anything I was saying?”

I say “No, not really. Hey, I have a better idea.”

I hide in my closet while pony me lays in my bed. I wait for my mom to come into my room and pony me will be starring at his hooves and yell “AHHH!!! I’VE BEEN TURNED INTO A PONY!!!!” She runs out screaming and then pony me and I switch places and pretend nothing happened.

We pull the same prank on all of my friends and family all day and never get caught. And then later that night, I guess we have sex. You’re probably wondering why I would fuck a pony version of me. Doesn’t matter. Had sex.

Looks like Stunthead’s video was taken down.
From context (here and on EQD), it was a preview clip from the Brony Documentary showing off one of the animated segments.
It looks like it was the same one I saw in the pre-screening back at EQLA, in fact.
I talked about it in words before, but it looks like someone got a couple screenshots for those interested.
I present to you, John De Lancie, ponified.

Now just imagine him talk-singing about MLP while fully animated by the AskTheCrusaders guy and you’ll have a good idea of what was in that video.
(I really like the original Lauren sketches on the wall behind her too!)

Wha? You talking about Me?

I’ll have you know that Bat Ponies are a perfectly legitimate option…

Exhibit A:

…Clearly they are Cannon…

Exhibit B:

…Clearly they can work…

Exhibit C:

…Clearly I just don’t know what went wrong… It’s not bad, could be better, but not horrible.

@Connor: Ur mom looks like a bad OC!

Anyway, while we’re on the topic of sharing OCs (yeh I’ve pretty much given up calling them FCs, I just don’t care anymore) I thought I’d dig up this chestnut for old times sake. I’ll bet most of you haven’t seen her before since it’s been a looooong time.

See, you can make an interesting fan character without resorting to making them an alicorn or some sort of freak of nature. Earth ponies get no damn love in the OC circuit.

Actually, Giga, my OC is an Earth Pony (see left). Although I have thought about making him a unicorn, which would make his chef backstory significantly easier…

Meh I’m still working on him.

SPOILSPORT! I WILL POST THE COLD HARD TRUTH WHETHER YOU MODS LIKE IT OR NOT!

Ugh….I’m even disgusted with myself…. BAN THIS SICK FILTH!

To more serious matters, there were a few people complaining about Spitfire’s VA being changed for Wonderbolt Academy. Her VA WAS changed but not for the last episode!

In Sonic Rainboom, Spitfire was played by Nicole Oliver (voice of Princess Celestia) but every episode after that (including Best Night Ever and Hurricane Fluttershy) was voiced by Kelly Metzger.

Pretty strange turn of events.

Oh, I forgot! I do have an OC!

Chesty Motherfucking McThunderbeard

You may remember him from that time I wrote those two bomb-ass fanfics that were literally the hypest shit of all time. Despite, y’know, being made at 1 AM…

FUCK MAN, THE HYPE WAS TOO STRONG!

Anyways, he’s an orijunal karucter, so donut steal.

Congratulations, You found all the influences…

Except I was trying to get a bit of Final Fantasy in there with Noctus Style hair. I must have failed somewhere.

Anyways, yes, I was going for a Lunar Guard style pony. But certainly not from the pony generator. Blarg!

I’m not sure how the Yugi-oh slipped in, but I was looking for a spot to put the second Hair color; somehow, the Yugi-oh style came naturally.

The Homestuck Hoodie was intentional, I’ve got one on order for myself. (Speaking of which, I have a nice number of accessories i wear in real life. Goggles, a Jacket, a Scarf, and Insignia T-shirt I designed myself. Compared to real me, this is “Tame”.)

As for the Katana… That has to do with how I seem to keep envisioning Equestria as full of Ninjas, considering all of the Mane 6 are Ninjas.

Are these good or bad? I don’t know.

…if this is about me putting “OC” in quotes (Yes, like that) it’s probably because I’m not sure If it should have been called a Pony-Sona or whatever.

…If this is about me making a character that is a blended up version of several franchises… Then… I guess it’s not a very “Origional” OC is it?

None of that is important though…

What is important is this…

Is is good or bad? What needs fixing?

All things considered, it’s kinda hard to strip all four away without it becoming worse. Strip away the hair highlights, and it becomes dull. Strip away the Homstuck Merch and we begin to run out of fashion accessories. Get rid of the sword, and the cutie mark will probably have to go too (or most of it will). Strip away the Lunar Guard Aspects… And well…

At that point, all you’re left with is a Dull colored, Blank Flank, Earth Pony. Or possibly Pegasus. At which point, it’s kinda hard to say it’s eye catching.

Eh… I could always start from scratch…

Edit: I’ll have to add a Yugi-oh scene to this comic response to Giga now… Thanks a lot.

The OC was related to it not being very “Original” as many ideas for it came from many external sources.

I’m not an OC creator, don’t have one and most likely will never make one (besides in jest). OCs has always been one of my least favorite parts of any fandom. Not due to me hating them, but because they contain way too many bad ones, constant repeating of the same features, “cool edgy black & red” OCs, those emo tough life neutral evil types, and Mary Sues. The backstories people come up with are also not as great all the time. And I also note that many OC creators are lazy, only requesting others to make it and hardly willing to do effort themselves.

This comic pretty much depicts my opinion:

Bigger

So yeah, for tips, I’m not the best person to go to. I would first try to determine what style of character you are creating, accompied by a (small) backstory. Then make small additions with that. I’m no fan of the badass sword-wielding OCs, way too common, but I won’t blame you for going with it. The Cutie Mark is way too dominant, and kinda screams “He wields a sword, ohmygawd so badsass”. Pegagi + sword is also not a great combination imo. Flying + weapon wielding, that’s a bit Mary Sue (avoid magic + weapon wielding at all costs, that’s just super Mary Sue). I might want to suggest changing him to an earth pony, but I leave that choice to you.

Also not spotting those goggles. I would avoid too many accessories though. It might look ok in real life (can’t confirm how you look though), but on OCs you always have too watch out. Especially with people like me or Giga who’ll exploit any flaw to call OCs bad.
