Least favourite thing about your fandoms?

Post here the main gripes you have with the fandoms for whatever you like.
For me, it’d have to be:

Touhou: Flanderization , especially with characters like Flandre and Koishi.

Team Fortress 2: Too. Much. Yaoi.

Katawa Shoujo: Unnecessary hatred for Shizune/Rin/Misha/Emi. Also when people automatically get shot down and downvoted just for saying they don’t like Hanako/Lilly.

Go ahead and share with us what you hate most about your fandoms.
(PS: Saying you hate fandoms/your fandom completely is allowed, just say why you hate it as well)

TF2: People who focus on getting kills more so than being useful to their team

Homestuck: …hmmm…nothing comes to mind

MLP: People who try to stir fandom warfare with the Dolanites or Furries. Also does everybody have to give their opinion on r34/clopping? Why can’t we shut up about that subject?

Everything in general: Whiners, bitchers and moaners on any given subject. Especially people who make a massive sobbing drama stories about how Homestuck/MLP/anything is everywhere, invading their precious internet space and how that’s ruining their life. I’ve no sympathy at all.

I’ll agree with Blue Screen’s section on General fandoms.

Homestuck: Constant butthurt and whining the moment Hussie makes a new update that contains a section they don’t like, although I also commonly laugh at the minor details they get butthurt about.

MLP: The need for a constant reassurement that there’s nothing wrong with their fandom and everything’s a-ok each time a topic is brought up about a part of the fandom they aren’t proud of. Learn to deal with it or just laugh at it.

Pokemon: Retarded discussions why X-gen is shit and Y-gen is god tier. If later gens are really as shitty as people claim, you would’ve stopped playing a long time ago.

Touhou: Confusion from the outside it’s just “another anime thing”, unaware they’re games actually.

MLP- I dislike how ahead of themselves some bronies can be. I’ve seen some bronies describe their fandom as some unstoppable force challenging gender barriers and spreading kindness on the internet. I couldn’t care any less about any of that. I just like the show.

Pokemon- Same as what everyone else has said regarding the gens. Also, I actually don’t know much about Pokemon at all. I just like the cute animals.

TF2LOL, I made a hat joke. I’m so witty and funny. Also, would it kill people to switch classes when there are 50 other scouts/engies/etc (I’m looking at you, snipers and spies)?

Elder Scrolls – Is it really necessary to have over a million skanky clothes/body replacers for females mods? I like to believe not all gamers are absolute perverts.

Every video game fandom- Stop bashing on CoD. I already see that enough on YouTube every time I watch a game trailer/soundtrack.

MLP – Some bronies take things way too seriously. Seriously, it’s a TV show, not your entire life.

TF2 – MvM Medics.

Pokemon – People who worship Zoroark/Lucario/Gardevoir. They aren’t even good pokemon, people just like them because they want to stick their dicks in them.

Gravity Falls – Fapfics, fapfics everywhere.

MLP: There are some really dumb bronies out there. I think I’m just used to being in academia, so I associate with some of the brightest people US society has to offer, but it only serves to exacerbate my base annoyance with dealing with simple-minded people. Just sayin’.

Also, I actually disagree with BSoD. I don’t think R34 discussion should be avoided. I think you should keep your emotions out of any debate or discussion, because how you feel about something sexually isn’t going to change, and what you do on your own time and dime isn’t up to others to judge especially when it isn’t harming anyone else (and if you’re saying it’s ruining the reputation of the fandom, then I’d say that isn’t really their responsibility, even if I do think you’re right.) So I think that those who say “No R34 discussion!” are more annoying than those who can calmly and reasonably discuss the phenomenon specific to MLP.

Pokemon: I’m not really a part of the fandom (I just like customization and the monster-catching RPG set-up of PKMN), but I think what I find to be most annoying is listed below and can be attributed to most fandoms:

I dislike those who are extreme in any fandom. People who think what is obviously their opinion is obviously fact (and those who disagree somehow don’t deserve common courtesy and are subject to insults…when I could much more easily and effectively insult their mannerisms, accent, body odor, lack of social skill…explaining why their fact is actually opinion, but that would be needlessly mean) more often in geeky subcultures more than others. I’ve associated with sports geeks and jocks, hipsters, more moderate Christians, martial artists, and anime geeks. And, by far, the ones that tend to lack the most tact, the most social skill, and are simply hard to get along with are the otaku. Often times, they reach into other subcultures like online MMO gaming or the like, but even they are hard to get along with (you may see why I didn’t post online until recently…on a regular basis.)

They just seem like they missed something in growing up, even though they’re about my age now. I thought that working with the average Joe/Jane (even if you don’t like them) is something that is a basic skill you learn at…8 or something.

Marvel: This war with DC and people who claim their fans but know jack shit and don’t read comics.

Halo: Bitching at CoD, whining about players age and Master Chief x Cortana.

Pokemon: Gen thing as mentioned. (I do have a opinion on my fav gen that’s it.)

Assassin’s Creed: People who only play brotherhood and revelations and people who fight over the best assassins.

Although not a fandom my favourite youtube channels: Youtube comments in general, people who worship fandoms, copy bitching and fanboy wars.

Professor Layton: The people who just can’t solve a puzzle but don’t want to look up any guides. We don’t want to hear you scream.
Ace Attorney: Giving characters crushes on other characters, or sexualizing the characters more than what was already intended.
Sega: People who still hold a grudge against Nintendo consoles after all these years. (Yes, I’ve seen a person who still refuses to play Super Nintendo. THIS HAPPENS.)
Earthbound: People greedy for sequels that they know would never come to the States, if at all. (This doesn’t apply to rereleases.)
Valve: The PC Master Race. I like consoles AND PC. Why not both?
Smash Bros, Worms, TF2: People who play them like their competitions. (Excluding competition players.) It’s a game, dude. Nobody needs to be perfect at something so unimportant.
Game Grumps: Seven Asses commenters who don’t even attempt at turning them into jokes.

TF2: People who treat Team Fortress 2 like Call of Duty.

CoD: The irritating prepubescent fucktards who scream into their headsets all day while circlejerking to their killcams.

9gag: The annoying jackasses in the community who beat memes to death.

Reddit: Those who do the same as the 9gaggers mentioned earlier.

4chan: The anons who insist on raiding every site and everybody that they don’t approve of. I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but sometimes it just seems unnecessary to me.

KYM: Believe it or not, we have some users (not naming names, but you probably know a few) who are just vile, harsh dicks, especially those who flame everybody who says anything they don’t like. I’ve seen people go into Pony General just to downvote posts and flame people. It’s just sad.

I am sometimes annoyed how bronies have to force ponies into every faucet of entertainment.
Subtle references are alright with me, I actually enjoy them more than “OMG GUYS LOOK IT’S RAINBOW DASH IN SKYRIM, MODMODMOD!!!”
It is also the reason that bronies get a lot of hate, I mean we get hate because people are thin-skinned fart-heads with nothing better to do than hate on other people, but I would get a little annoyed too if someone kept spamming their fandom all over the place if I wasn’t a brony.

Not that it is a big deal, most people ignore it anyway, but most bronies realize the pony spam can annoy other people, sadly the flamboyant bronies who spam it everywhere paint us in a bad light.

And besides generic problems of Complaints/Weird fetish shit, I hate the Tumblr side of it.

When something new appears, Tumblr immediately eats it and shits out… shit.

You see a new character and it’s going to be a million pictures and porn and an Ask blog and all sorts of shit that makes it seem like Tumblr actively tries to become that being, worst part being is that most assume they can do this and it may as well be canon, especially with the new ones.

MLP: Bronies inability to decide who we are. This, I feel, is the root cause of what everyone else has complained about. You keep seeing arguments pop up again and again about things like “If it’s ok to like ponies, then are furries ok to?” and “Are we breaking gender stereotypes or are we just a bunch of womanly faggots who need to grow up?” and “Should we practice love and tolerance and refrain from trolling, or is it ok for us to make offensive jokes like making fun of the mentally handicapped”

Don’t even get me started on the constant rule 34 discussion. I used to think that bronies were so interested in discussing it because it’s just a genuinely fucking weird phenomenon, but it comes up so damn much that I’ve grown to suspect that the reason most bronies are so eager to discuss it is because a larger portion than will admit have some attraction to ponies and are trying to figure out how to justify it.

Also, I fucking hate the term brony. Makes me cringe everytime I hear it and I absolutely loathe when I have to apply it to myself.

Avatar TLA/LoK: I’m pissed that people haven’t railed against Legend of Korra as the absolute let down it was. I mean, we’re talking Star Wars original trilogy vs. prequels level of disappoint here, and no one seems to notice.Ya ya, I know, subjective tastes and all that, but the disparity in quality between the old series and the new is so great that I find myself legitimately shocked that I hold the minority opinion on this one.

Zelda: I would have complained about the obsessive-compulsive disorder fans have for figuring out the timeline if this were a year ago, but they released an official timeline, and I think I’m starting to miss the old pedantic bickering about what the symbols on Zelda’s dress in the 3rd game might indicate. Huh.

Also, I actually disagree with BSoD. I don’t think R34 discussion should be avoided. I think you should keep your emotions out of any debate or discussion, because how you feel about something sexually isn’t going to change, and what you do on your own time and dime isn’t up to others to judge especially when it isn’t harming anyone else (and if you’re saying it’s ruining the reputation of the fandom, then I’d say that isn’t really their responsibility, even if I do think you’re right.) I really hope you do not believe that. You should know me by now. You’ve seen me quite openly discuss the subject several times. My problem is not with R34, it’s with the tiresome bickering about it

I’m pretty sure the only people legitimately interested in the timeline would have already pre-ordered the newest game.

As an aside, I found Skyward Sword to be one of the weakest Zelda games to date. They’re losing the magic, and that makes me very sad.

@Dac

To your first point, the thing about Legend of Korra is that I don’t like to think that it just failed to appeal to me. I feel like it made really novice errors in basic story writing, the kind of crap you see in bad fanfiction.

It’s less about me wanting people to help me hate on LoK and more about me wanting other people to confirm that I’m correct in what I think are the basic neccesities for a good story.

To your second point, you can kind of understand why bronies would be so interested, if not obsessed, with defining themselves. Speaking from personal experience, I was on the outer periphery of weirdo nerd culture and I had a personal image of myself as a normal, fairly masculine fellow. Then one day I check out this pony show and…apparently I’m into ponies now. It can cause a small identity crisis, like a very small-scale version of discovering you’re gay, and you can understand why people might be eager to try to make sense of who they are. For a lot of bronies however, it’s not enough to say “Ya, I just so happen to like ponies,” they have to try to justify their love of ponies with a bunch of bullshit rhetoric explaining how ponies are in fact masculine, or socially progressive, or what have you.

Similarly there are the people in the Starcraft subculture who threaten to leave if you don’t choose a game mode they like (Some Starcraft games let the players vote on the game mode). Those who bitch about the majority rule really piss me off. It’s how politics works so why can’t they just grow a sack and deal with it?

And then there are the hypocrites who think anyone they beat is a noob and anyone who beats them is a no-life. Either that or they always whine “CHEESE”/“OP”/“HAX”. Then again most gaming cultures get that
