Today, the whole world was shocked when His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI is resigning as Pope on February 28th due to health issues. The Pope has been known for a 2009 scandal in which he and many other priests were accused of child molestation. In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI has become the first Pope to use social networking.

Funny, I expected him to fall down a reactor shaft.

Well I find it very likely if I you just let me get the job I don’t know, after all, ‘They’ are racist if they say that the ‘chosen one’ can’t look anything other than white…

Increasing, actually. A greater and greater percentage of the world’s Catholics live in Africa. Not to mention that the amount of people in Europe and North America willing to become Catholic priests is decreasing fairly rapidly; Ireland and Poland are the main strongholds in Europe left.
Odds are we’ll see an African Pope by the end of the century. Whether or not they’re mixed race is hard to say.

Pope’s can resign? I thought they had to be popes until they died.

For a while I thought the same thing about Supreme Court justices, but apparently it’s the same thing with them.

Popes could resign, though it has been over 600 years since the last Pope’s resignation. The last pope to resign prior to Pope Benedict XVI was Pope Gregory XII in 1415.
