@Fluttershy
Sorry for double posting, but I just read something interesting from PG#1: “Fluttershy is thought to be a prostitute in her spare time.”

Can someone explain this?

Considering a response to the post Katie. C made was a YouTube video titled WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOU’” (which is exactly what it says on the tin,) I don’t know if we ever knew.

Daniel Vazquez may have been the only person who was posting in Pony General at that time (I think RandomMan and I began to post a few pages after that point,) so he may be the only person who could know the context of it.

You could also just ask Katie C. himself (I don’t know enough about Katie to know why the name is “Katie” or why the username used to be “Katie Starshine.”) He’s still active on the site, if you want to ask.

Girl’s gotta pay the bills somehow, right?

I mean, how does she make her money living in the woods with a bunch of animals?
The only potential ‘job’ we’ve seen her do is grooming pets (Opal at the beginning of Stare Master) but that doesn’t seem to be a full-time thing.
Hug whoring seems like a reasonable alternative.

You know….all this talk about prostitution reminds me of a short fanfic….my friend told me to read it all the way to the end and so I did….I was disturbed but then I don’t know how to feel about it at the end. It’s a fanfic where an older Scootaloo who is poor and homeless resorts to prostitution to get through the winter, the sex scenes are pretty detailed and a little disturbing. But then in the end she used the Hooker money to buy Applebloom and Sweetie Belle sweaters (basically all she could afford) for Hearth’s Warming Eve……it was one of the most heart warming clopfics I’ve ever read (it’s the only clopfic I’ve read but still…).

Fluttershy hug whoring eh? I’ll take twelve.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Fluttershy is a vet.

I thought it was Animal Whisperer, Animal Trainer, Pet Day Care, and Petshop.

…If you’re wondering where the Animal Whispering comes in… Just remember that Somepony had to convince the beavers to leave Applejack’s Place alone.

…She also got birds to sing for the Summer Sun Celebration, which is a small hunk of change for a while…

…She probably makes a good sum from taking care of Animals for Rich Business Ponies who are out of town…

…And then… There’s whatever the heck she did in “May the Best Pet Win”. Which I guess because “Petshop” isn’t a word she’d use, she’d think of as more “Matchmaking, Except for Pets”.

Anyways… Just thought up a new topic…

Does anyone think Rainbow’s Mane is some kind of Weird Mutation?

I mean… The only Ponies I’ve seen with it are pretty much her and her Father(?)/Brother(?)

Isn’t Fluttershy a bit vet-like in A Bird In The hoof, where she has cured a rat, and later on tries to cure Philomena? She probably heals more pets, from which she can make some money

But Ponyville already has a vet.

A vet who seems to have a much more specific talent for curing animals (though not dragons, I guess), better medical equipment and training, and isn’t way outside of town.
I’m sure Fluttershy can take care of her animals quite well, but i kind of doubt that she’s the go-to vet in the area.

@Kewl
She’ll be rich!

@Rainbow Hair

She does have liquid rainbow flowing all over her house.
Maybe she needs a constant supply to keep up the illusion.
All part of being an eye-catching showpony!

Yeah, most likely, it’s just a special family trait.
I wouldn’t call it a ‘mutation’ really (though technically everything was a mutation at some point), just a recessive gene that has unusually high expression in her family.

@ DeadParrot
You saying Ponyville already has a vet is like saying anywhere else that a town already has a doctor, and doesn’t need another. I’m sure Fluttershy is the more traditional remedy type doctor, that one vet is the more current in technological cures. But we’re forgetting one very crucial doctor/healer here…

Which brings up a question I had about her. Twilight say that she uses “fake” magic like potions and brews. Adding to this the love potion the CMC created in Hearts and Hooves Day, can potions exist in the MLP universe that can turn ponies into other creatures or objects like Twilight’s orange spell? I say it’s no doubt possible, but due to the dark nature of such metamorphosis from it, has rarely if ever been used widely. What do you all think?

@Metamorphosis potion
There might be such a potion in the MLP universe, as Zecora has potions to fix broken teeth, and give good hair (Cutie Pox). But a full body metamorphose? I don’t know, I think it’s to risky for them. With a spell, they can change it back almost immediatly, whereas an anti-potion takes a while to brew.

Flutteshy as a vet is thing. Maybe not a job but something she used to treat her friends. Also, does Fluttershy even work? All the other ponies have jobs. Rarity has her boutique, Pinkie Pie in the Sugar Cube Corner, AJ at the farm, Rainbow with the weather. Twilight is(was?) a student, so it doesn’t count.

@Metamorphosis potion:
Of course there is such thing in a world of unicorns, pegasi and all sort of magic stuff. But is there any practical thing in metamorphing a Frog into an orange? Like using this to turn any pony into a harmless animal or fruit?

Should I still keep EQG related pics under an spoiler button?

Not necessarily, but think of it this way: The doctor in Secret of my Excess told Twilight to go see a vet.
If Fluttershy was really known for her veterinary skills, why did Twilight take Spike to the other vet’s office?
To me, it implies that Fluttershy is not immediately thought of as a vet, even by her close friends.
Like I said before, she definitely has some skills but I’d say it’s akin to her ‘freaky knowledge of sewing.’
She can do it in a pinch, but if you need a dress, you’re going to go to Rarity first.
So maybe Flutts does some vet work on the side, but I just don’t see it being her primary occupation or source of income.

Another theory that just popped to mind, Fluttershy seems to be the town’s only chicken farmer. (I don’t recall ever seeing any on Sweet Apple Acres…)

With all the baking done at Sugarcube Corner, being the sole source of eggs could potentially be quite profitable.

Really, the most likely possibility is that Fluttershy has no single ‘job.’
She has a lot of smaller ways to make money (grooming, training, eggs, vet stuff, etc.) that she just does as they are needed.
It’s just not anything formalized or stable.

I’ve never really been into superhero comics and stuff like that, but if I ever started following one, I’d be leaning toward Deadpool just based on how I’ve seen him portrayed in relation to ponies.

@Metamorphosis spell – One can only imagine how horribly that could use. For example, ponies (and other creatures) can be turned to stone. Now, according to Discord’s dialogue in KCAFO, he was sentient the entire time he was imprisoned. Let that sink in for a moment. You’re trapped in granite for milennia, and you’re alive and well the entire time. Absolutely a worse fate than death.

One thing I just thougth of- vets do have their own specialities. For example, yoiu don’t (generally) take an owl to the same vet as you would a cat. Maybe Twilight should have taken Spike to Fluttershy, but had forgotten Fluttershy was the rare animals vet? For that matter, if I remember correctly, Twilight first took Spike to the same doctor ponies use. She may not have been thinking entirely rationally. (This also makes sense if you look at her animal friends. They are almost all wild animals, excepting the chickens. Fluttershy probably primarily takes care of the rarer animals, and the petsitting is done as a favour. As for the cat she offered Rainbow? probably feral.)

@Fluttershy occupation:
I always thought her job was taking care of the woodland creatures (and any other creatures in need that cross her path) and she got paid through taxes like in most government jobs. It’s implied that nature needs ponies to take care of it (which is why the Everfree forest is just so damn creepy to them), and an ecosystem needs animals in it to survive, so it would only make sense that Ponyville would have Fluttershy there to keep the ecosystem and fauna of the forest in check. I also like to think that she makes extra money buy selling pets to loving homes (like in May the Best Pet Win, except she let Dash have a free pet as a favor), taking care of/grooming/petsitting those who need their pets watched over (and it seems like pets are popular in Ponyville), and raising chickens to sell their eggs (she did have a whole chicken coop, after all). She may not have a completely necessary profession, but it’s still a useful one. Hell, maybe there was an animal caretaker before Fluttershy, and Flutters learned from him/her in an apprenticeship. And maybe the other cities and towns across Equestria have their own wild animal caretakers as well.

@DeadParrot: We actually do see chickens on Sweet Apple Acres. In Magical Mystery Cure we see Pinkie Pie with them.

Okay… Found an Image that Supposedly figures out the height of ponies compared to humans now that we have Equestria Girls for Comparison.

Basically it says that Human Twilight is 23 Apples tall while Pony Twilight is 10 1/6 Apples while on hind legs and 8 1/2 apples while on all fours (Which doesn’t sound like much).

(Edit: although I’d probably place the upright as being closer to 12 when I look at the proportions of the 4 legged stance, so I assume their upright pose is squashing the Neck.)

It also assumes that if Human Twilight is 6 feet tall, then Pony Twilight is about 2"6 on Hind legs or 2"1 on all Four.

Now… I hate to ruin this little analysis with my Ignorance of the Imperial System… But I have no Idea how tall any of those figures are. All I know is that it makes it sound like ponies are a third of our size, and about half our size on a good day.

(Which now forces me to realize that There’s no way the proportions I usually draw ponies in is anywhere near accurate.)

The 6 feet would be around 180~183 centimeters.
2"6 would be 2 feet plus 6 inch = 2×30 + 6×2,54 = 60+15,24 = ± 75 centimeters on hind legs
2"1 is thus 60 cm plus 2,54 = 62,54 centimeters on all four

So a pony Twilight’s size would be a bit under half a human’s size on the hind legs, or a bit above knee-height when standing on all four (that last is a rough estimate, as I can’t directly find something to measure that)

I had a fanfic idea where she went to college to get her veterinary degree, but failed due to not completing the last course of her Gen Eds--Speech 101. Dash finds out and hilarity ensues when she forces Fluttershy to go back to college with her to get her degree.

@Fluttershy’s job
I always have headcanoned er as a vet. Why didn’t Twilight take Spike to her then? Simple. Twilight’s health insurance (and as a result, Spike’s too) requires her to only use certain doctors because the medical associations bribed Parliament into passing Lunacare it’s more cost effective. Flutterhsy’s not covered by the healthcare, so Twilight went to the one that was.

I’ve also seen the headcanon that she’s a “park ranger” who’s employed by the government to take care of the perimeter of the Everfree Forest. Or the one where she’s a porn star.

Okay… So give or take, about the size of a Dog… Probably not much Bigger than a Husky.

…Hmm… Wonder how big that makes Luna or Celestia then? Probably about Chest Height until they rear up I guess.

Jun 29, 2013 at 08:16AM EDT
Quote

About husky size seems correct.
For measuring Luna and Celestia’s size, I used this picture:

(I hope image posting works via my ipod)

I measured Twilight’s height, from bottom of hoof until the top of her mane (1,7 cm on ipod screen), and then did the same with Celestia (2,9 cm)
I divided 2,9 by 1,7, giving 1,706. I multiplied this with Twilight’s height you got (so 1,706 × 62,54) and got a height of 106,69 cm, excluding the horn and crown.
So from the bottom of her hooves until the top of her mane could be 106~107 cm

edit
using 2 gun replica’s and a small measuring thing, I found that Twilight would indeed be just over the height of my knees, and Celestia (without her horn) around the height of my belly button.
I did an extra measurement with her horn (3,4 cm) and did the same calculation, giving a height of around 125 cm, which would be a few centimeters below the bottom of my sternum.

Also… I’m really hoping this doesn’t Preclude the “Octavia is Third Sister” possibility.

Then again, we’ve survived worse, and Fanon is easy to warp whichever way we need to suit our purpose… Cause Canon rarely sinks everything, they tend to leave a life raft or two.

EDIT: Also, I realized something but I keep forgetting to post until now. It’s funny, if you watch the pilot episode for MLP when Celestia sends Twilight to ponyville you realize if you read her letter with a serious tone like during the Season 2 and 3 premieres Twilight would’ve known from the beginning of the episode that Celestia wanted her to make friends to save the world. But of course Spike just HAD to read it like it was a joke or something. Goddammit Spike.

Aaaaaand… conflicting results.
Looks like attempting to pull hard data from cartoon proportions is trickier than it might appear at first.

Personally, I like the left-hand version better.
It puts adult ponies at 3 – 4 feet which would make them certainly larger than a dog (Look at them in comparison to Winona) but shorter than a human.
Celestia would end up roughly human height.
Fillies and colts would be ‘large dog’ size (which seems to fit with their proportion to other animals).
I’m of the opinion that two-foot-tall ponies are just way too small to work in a realistic (ha) way when you place them next to other common objects and animals in their world.

They would be pretty damn cute at that size, though.

Eh, I honestly don’t care about real-world proportions all that much so long as the art is interesting/cute.
It’s all good!

@Pinkie’s Family
Yep, they are getting semi-canon names!
The thing I don’t get: Why is Pinkie ‘Pinkie’?
Everyone else is named after a type of rock, but I’ve never heard of a ‘Pinkamena’ formation.
Oddly, the silly fanon Pacman naming system almost makes more sense than this one because at least having a Pinkie in there works.

Just a little VA news: Seems that Tabitha St. Germaine is sick!

She might beg to differ, though.

…Well… I suppose that however you slice it, we’re not too far out…

I think I saw an Image on DerpiBooru that said if the Candy Cane is indeed 8 foot tall, then Human Twilight is 6 Foot 7 or something(And although I’m not familiar with Feet as measurements, I’m pretty sure that sounds like Basket Ball Player Height… Which isn’t far fetched but is kinda over idealized.)

…One thing all the Measurements forget though is that Most beings don’t have the exact same size, but have general ranges… Much like you can expect a human to be anywhere from 5 Foot to 7 Foot before things get exaggerated.

If we generalize all these measurements, we get a rough idea of the smallest to expect a full grown Pony to be, the probable measurements, and at what point you’re pushing into Flur de Lis or Princess Height territory.

So I guess Smaller Ponies would be closer to the 2 feet Mark when Grown, Large or Average Sized ones may be closer to the 4 Foot Mark.

Meanwhile… Princess Celestia probably Looks you Straight in the Eye, while Luna is just tall enough to Nuzzle your Neck but still tilts her head up a little to stare into your eyes.

(0///0)

…Did I make that last part sound too romantic?

I’m pretty sure that the consensus agrees with that, and the notes about Celestia and Luna being able to look you in the eyes still place Luna and Celestia Significantly smaller than a full sized Horse.

Because while general estimate places Celestia’s eyes being level with yours…

…A full grown Horse will look down on you from above… With Stern Disapproval.

Seriously though, A full grown horse freaking Towers over people like a Giant. And Nobody thinks Celestia is going to be THAT big.

And After looking at Size Comparisons of Actual Horses Vs Pony… Generally, if it can look down on you, its not a pony…

… If it can look you in the face, it may still count as a Pony… Just a larger than usual Pony…

(One chart says 14 hands is about the maximum for a pony, and a Visual aid shows a pretty slouched 15 hand horse looking someone in the face… And sites make sure to mention horses are measured to the Wither [Shoulder area]… So if we assume that Celestia just has really good posture when she decides to look you level in the eye, she could fit within the 14 hand limit.)

…Also, that chart there also mentions healthy weight ranges, and considering Celestia and Luna’s Skinny builds probably places them in the somewhat smaller numbers that look reserved for ponies.

Edit: Oh FFFF- Almost forgot you were more focused on ponies other than Celestia/Luna, which I’m somehow fairly certain barely even fit on the smallest pony end of the charts. That’s how small they seem.

If we seem to be talking about height, I have my own theories. I believe that standard ponies are around forty-two inches tall (three-foot-six), fillies are thirty inches tall (two-foot-six), Luna and Cadance are sixty inches tall (five-foot), Celestia is sixty-nine inches tall (five-foot-nine), and male ponies are forty-seven inches tall (three-foot-eleven). Please note this does not count horns.

Then again, these are just wild guesses. I could be completely wrong and ponies could be as tall as their blindbags.

ugh I have not posted here in way too long. I’ve been having trouble keeping up, having to deal with the ending of school. btw this picture saved me a few points on my chem exam:

What spare time I have had I have been spending on pony however. I’ve been working on a song for Trixie. Check it out!

I don’t think Trixie doesn’t get enough love (except from Seth). I still often see her portrayed as the character she was in Boast Busters, when she’s clearly surpassed that. Sure she’s gonna have some issues being humble and all, but give her a break- it takes time to change your whole personality. I honestly would like to see why she was like that in the first place. There’s probably a fanfic out there about it… I should get looking for that

now for actually being on topic, while most of the ponies in the show are animated with the same base model, I think it’s safe to assume that there’s still going to be variations in height just like real life. the 1-2ft margin shown comparing the two different measurements I don’t think is an actual conflict in the results. measurements taken like that are never going to be perfectly accurate, but I think both of them give us the general range of non-alicorn pony height: between 2 and 4 feet

@disturbed below
I haven’t seen it yet either. waiting for a high quality rip on youtube.

I’ve been gone for the last three days. Let me see if I got this right:
Fluttershy is an orphan with aspergers and was bullied in school. When she grew up she became a prostitute, a vet, a chicken farmer, a government-paid-animal-care-taker, and a porn star.

Also, I think I’m the only person in this thread who hasn’t seen Equestria Girls. Huh.

@Disturbed

I haven’t seen EqG either. Nor do I intend to. I went to see World War Z instead.

My time is far more vested into drawing ponies and playing minecraft

@Pony height

There’s little denying the apple comparisons. Even if that places ponies a little smaller than I would like. At the end of the day this is My Little Pony and in all serious I guess it would be about right.

But at that same end of the day I remember that this is my headcanon and in within it, ponies can be any size I damn well please. So I just end up saying “They are as tall as I want to imagine”. Which usually places them at about tall dog size (Winowa is a small breed)

A bit anti-climatic when it comes to discussion yes, but I’ve already been down the long debate road for this topic

I haven’t seen it either, for numerous reasons, some I’m totally willing to say, some I’m not sure if I should say or not (but I will spoiler if I decide to).
