I think it’s just society today tends to focus on the crazy, wierd, and sometimes heartwarming events rather than global disasters or government corruption. People are more drawn to interesting things rather than sad, tragic events. In my History class, half the people had no idea what was going on in Syria.

Take Justin Bieber for example, people care more about celeberties than the Ukrainian Protests. In terms of popular media, some idiot many people care about is focused on instead of what is going on some nowhere near home. Same with a couple months back, the “death” of Brian Griffin was more talked about than the typhoons in the Phillipines.

The situation there has long exceeded the protest containment threshold a.k.a. the situation where there would be less damage or victims when the police and other forces are called off. But of course the rulers of that country don’t want that to happen.
