So CNN did a few interviews with some people that went viral on the internet.

You only linked Obama Girl, so I digged through the vids a bit and also found this one with Ted Williams. Dunno if you have more vids.


That said, my reaction is mostly neutral.

These videos show that viral videos do affect people’s lives, even on the long run. If this is always a good thing isn’t the case though, as Obama Girl has told in her video that she finds it difficult to get seen as someone else than Obama Girl. Ted Williams on the other hand is a good conclusion. He went from homeless to a house and a job.

So I guess we can mostly say it really depends on what you went viral with. Obama Girl went viral through something intended to be satire, Ted Williams went viral with a golden voice.

But it does tell us to look out with what you wish for. There are hundreds of people out there who wish to be internet famous. But internet fame isn’t always something you’d like to have, and if the wrong thing gets you that fame it can end badly.
