So following the finale of the Eurovision, Austria's transvestite Conchita Wurst managed to win the contest (with the Netherlands being second, so suck it rest of Europe).
As you can understand, this didn't go without some controversy. A transvestite winning a singing competition, various people are saying his victory was only because of him being a transvestite.
Others on the other hand are praising that he managed to get this far with the way he looks, and there are certainly countless people who really love the song he sang. These people are also proud that an act like this managed to win, and during the contest each time Conchita's name was mentioned it resulted in loud applause.
And then there are Russian politicians getting brutal on Twitter, I'll spare the details but it's not something a politician should be saying.
So yeah, people were already discussing this in the comment section of the Beard entry, but since comments aren't the best place for discussion and since the entry itself isn't about him, I made this thread.
Personally, I don't really mind that he won. It personally wasn't my most favorite song, but I can see the appeal to it. And hey, my opinion can't speak for an entire continent.
Did the beard and everything help in his victory though? Oh it certainly helped with the audience votes, but likewise I'm certain there are also people who avoid voting for him because of it. A singing contest isn't really the perfect place to aim for equality, because it moves the point of the competition away from the singing, but I'm overall still glad to see the support it got. Go back a couple of years and I doubt an act like his would've even made it to Eurovision.
But yeah, how do you feel about the situation and everything surrounding it?
