Mostly some security upgrades. A lot more stuff coming soon…

http://knowyourmeme.com/changelog.txt

1.7 Forum upgrade 1/2... * Show last-edited time on forum posts * Edit/delete buttons fixed (finally) * Forum posting speed limits: you can only post every 30 seconds to prevent idiotflooding * Anti-necro: threads automatically close after 30 days (this may be reduced further) * Ajaxify forum posting to prevent double-posting * You must be on the last page of a forum thread to post to it (read the whole thread!) * For performance reasons we can only show 50 posts per page instead of 100 Deleting your own photos and comments should now work correctly Search improvements: faster indexing of new entries, and better sorting of results Profile page: large images are constrained to the column width correctly

Edit: this post should now display that it was edited →

Edit2: I also figured out why people’s logins were sometimes not being “remembered” -- it should stick for ~30 days now if you check the box

Photo removal fix isn’t in just yet… It has a surprisingly large # of dependencies around it.

Deleting your own forum posts should work again though

Edit: just realized we included the photo/comment fix in the changelog -- I’m going to remove it for the time being :\ sorry about that

I love the pic that shows up when you try to post before 30 seconds :D

BTW let me know if you guys find any issues -- we’re kind of rushing this stuff out

Edit: I just found a way to fix the deleting photos bug, though it’s not quite 100% -- your deletion might not show up for a few minutes

I’m going to push out a new version later tonight

Good job devs. Trying out some of these features out.

Edit?

You must wait at least 0 seconds before posting again.

Nice work, Greg and Jamie.
But you made one mistake: 0 seconds?

Two things.

Don’t say something someones already said.

Don’t triple post.

Great job, ROCKETBOOM! Can’t wait until these features are finalized! Keep up the awesome work!

Also, contradictory to Griff’s impatience (sorry about that, dude), there’s no need to rush. Just keep working on these features until you’re happy with the end results. It’s best if all these features are working properly when they’re activated for all the users.

1. An initial comment/photo deletion patch is in -- it’s possible the buttons might not always show up, but if they do, they should work. I’ll keep you guys posted as I investigate further

2. the “0 seconds” bug is fixed :)

3. I set the thread anti-necro at 30 days -- is this too long?

Awwwww man.

I can ban you guys straight from the forums.

Hell yeah.

Also, I think thirty days is enough.

Edit: I’m loving the “last edited” thing.

Jamie, you’re my hero. I’m bowing before you right now.

Hold up.

The KYM story thread has been closed.

It hasn’t finished it’s run.

Maybe there should be a way for admins to un-close (or open, open works too) threads?

Great point Blubber -- it might not necessarily be “30 days from creation,” maybe it’s more like “7 days since last post”? When do you guys think a thread is… ‘dead’?

I’ll push out un-closing (among a few other mod tools) soon as well, but also want to make sure any automatic stuff is accurate

WHen the thread has reached page 10.

Also: edit doesn’t work when right after posting.

Threads should be closed manually. There are threads more than 30 days old that need to be bumped, like the Greenoch thread.

Policy: Close completed threads.

Of course, some threads may never be locked, such as “ask a stupid question”

Oh yeah, the font color for “Last edited” is hard to see.

It’s autoclosing right now, not manual. This feature was built under the assumption that the “thread necro” issue is actually an issue… sometimes it’s nice to see old threads revived? When is it not nice?

when the threads served their purpose or it was all spam to begin with.

Either way I just pushed the limit to 30 days from the last post and not the beginning, which should only close legitimately dead threads

We still may need manual closing for special occasions.

This thread is closed to new posts.

Old threads normally auto-close after 30 days of inactivity.

Why don't you start a new thread instead?

Howdy! You must login or signup first!
