i know i cant be the only person to think this. Has 2014 been a really shitty year, or WHAT? Lets go down the list: the quinnspiracy, swatting, ferguson, ISIS, etc, etc…
My question for you is: how many good things have happened this year compared to bad things? I don’t know, i think it just hit me that theres been an oversaturation of tragedies and scandals this year for some reason. Any thoughts?

We did get Twitch Plays Pokemon and Luigi’s Death Stare, but still. Not that many memes have came out besides Subculture Hype.

476 - The western Roman Empire falls and Europe enters the middle-ages
1347 - The Black Death reaches Europe, causing the death of 1/3 of the population
1520 - smallpox hit the Americas, eventually killing between 60 and 90 percent of the continents’ original inhabitants.
1914 - Franz Ferdinand is assassinated by the kebab removal nationalist, starting WWI*
1918 - WWI rages for 11 months of the year, The 1918 Flu pandemic begins and kills 50-100 million worldwide.
1929 -stock market crashes plunging the world into the great depression, the saint valentine’s day massacre, Trotsky is expelled from Russia thus cementing Stalin as dictator of the Soviet Union.
1937 - The rape of Nanking occurs The Japanese soldiers kill up to 60,000 Chinese civilians and commit acts of rape, mutilation, theft, arson, and other war crimes.
1939 - Hitler invades Poland, starting WWII
1941 - The Nazis Now have control of most of Western Europe and invade the Soviet Union, leading to the largest land theater of war in history, Pearl Harbor is attacked killing 2403 Americans.
1943 - The Holocaust is at it’s peak, 6 million Jews and 5 million other minorities including gays, gypsies, and the disabled will be killed.
1948 - The Arab-Israeli War starts (compare this to whats going on in gaza now and you’ll see the current situation is nothing new)
1968 - the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy, the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, racial tensions escalating and eventually culminating with the 1968 Washington D.C. Riots, as well as the riots at the ’68 Democratic convention.

It’s all perspective, we weren’t around to see worse events so lesser events seem big to us.

I’m certainly going to call this the most pessimistic year ever. Each year people complain about how shit the state of the world is, but this year they’re outdoing themselves.

It always seems worse while you’re living it, my friend.
Then again, the fact that the dawn of World War III appears right now to be the most imminent since the end of the Cold War is… unique. But we’ll see about that.

I’m not sure how entertainment is enough to cancel out ISIS and other shitty events this year, but we have a good year in movies right?

Right?

I mean, in animation, we got Book of Life, The LEGO Movie, How to Train Your Dragon 2. Also we have an inspiration that is Guardians of the Galaxy, as it is currently the highest grossing domestic film this year, even though people had their doubts on this movie.

Besides entertainment, this year we were able to uncover ongoing shit. Yes, Ferguson is in deep trouble right now, but at the same time, everyone is now finally aware of police corruption and brutality against minorities and now there is an effort to stop these kinds of things elsewhere, so that counts as something. This especially goes to Quinnspiracy. It’s ugly, but the gaming community have openly uncovered the problem in gaming journalism. And this will hopefully bring out change and hopefully leads to a revamp on gaming journalism and more quality and less biased journalism.

So no, I don’t believe this year was a total waste. While new problems have arised, we’re looking at some forms of entertainment (such as animation) grow into a more respected phase and becoming more creative. We have proof that you don’t need to be an immature explosion porn to rack up big money and that creativity and good writing always triumphs. And most importantly, some of these low points of this year are merely low points in industries that have been going on for a while, but now have been exposed in its ugly true state and there is a recognized effort to change the status quo.

All I can say is that this year was interesting, but it gets better, especially when we have people who won’t take bullshit and will do whatever it takes to stand against it.

Don’t overreact. Sorry to sound like an annoying Tumblr SJW, but you need to check your time privilege because the present is better than the world has ever been. Don’t be such a Negative Nancy.

Probably every year is another step closer to being the shittiest year ever. I mean how many people live on this tiny marble of a planet? China’s already way too overpopulated, America consumes millions of barrels of oil more than it should, ISIS is out to fuck things up, apparently Russia is to, 4 billion trees are cut down and around 10k species go extinct each year, and, to top it all off, we may be screwing our offspring with Global Warming.

Of course I can look at the bright side of things and at least I don’t have to worry about getting raped or shot while I sleep tonight, I’ll probably still have an internet connection in the morning, and I get to drive my car to school so that I can prepare myself for a high income job.

TL;DR: Anywhere light shines, there’s going to be a shadow.

there probably wont be a WWIII, countries right now are so far into globalization they depend on other countries to mantain their economy, also full on scale wars cost a shitload more than what you would earn in a war business.

cold war 2 would be more likely.

@twisted

My thoughts exactly. Nobody really wants WWIII, including all of the world powers so there’s a good chance we’ll make sure it doesn’t happen.

Sort of like how the nuclear apocalypse expected to arrive after the cold war never arrived. Because nobody has anything to gain from nuking the entire earth. Nobody probably had the balls either after seeing all those poetic post-apocalypse films

The world is much more conscientious than it was before, and is particularly aware of how much WW I and II fucked up so much shit. A third would be worse than both combined and we all know we can’t afford it. The nations all invest in each other too much for that

There’s been plenty of opportunities for WWIII it to happen. 9/11, Syria and whenever North Korea feels like it. But it didn’t happen

I think it’s all in the eyes of the beholder. For some, 2014 maybe was the best year and maybe for another it’s the worst. Everyone is living their own life, so everyone is experiencing different events in their life.
Just ignore the media for a bit and think of your own action through this year and the past years. I think those will determine if it was a good or bad year for you, anyways.

For a world wide view, the world has always been filled with both chaos and miracles. Just, the media tends to focus on the chaos more than the miracles since it sells well and brings people together in a state which they can talk about and compare it to their lives.

I guess what I’m saying, it’s a good or bad year if you deem it so.

That’s what I think anyways.
