We got a ton of pictures of anime girls making out or just being adorable couples, and they frequently make it to the most commented page, but it seems like there is almost no yaoi uploaded.

I can understand why yuri is so popular, when you like vagoo, 2 is just twice as awesome. But there is a lot of yaoi pictures I know even straight males find adorable, at least as long as they aren't homophobic.

Also, would yuri and yaoi qualify for their own article or a sub in the "anime" article? they are specific type of media that are popular, and seem like a meme to me at least or part of the anime meme, though, I suppose if we made an article for each genre of anime it would dwarf the Pokemon and possibly the Gamergate article.

I don't know would just be kinda nice to take a breather from the trickle of anime girls making out, but its probably just me. what do you think?

I've talked about why I am not as big of a fan as Yaoi as I am Yuri. And it mostly has to do with the fact the artists of Yaoi try almost a little to hard to make their males Handsome but Beautiful but also Handsome… and Beautiful. To horrid results.

Yuri for some reason doesn't fall into that trap as often.

well I can understand that, but I think the yuri stuff can have equally horrifying results, just tends to be drawn better more so the bad stuff gets buried. less yaoi artists means when the bad art shows up you really notice it.

I mean just on Gelbooru if I search "Yaoi" I get 474 pages of results
Search Yuri and I get the error "Unable to search this deep in temporarily." (giggity) but I mean thats either such a huge difference I am unable to find out how many pages actually exist, or the website's image hosting servers are still recovering from the merger they did earlier this year.

i think yuri is generally perceived as less violent and more cute, or "vanilla" than heterosexual pictures/comics/moving images etc. by default.
also, from a male pov, the lack of a male, who'd be destined to be empathised with by the reader (what most autors DO intend, at least in comics and moving images), and the possibility to just watch "the cute stuff" – aka rabu- happen, without somehow unwillingly projecting yourself into that, can be very convenient. the yaoi counterpart to that would be fujoshi.
that's just my opinion tho.

as far as just the pictures in the image galleries go, there are probably more yuri uploaders, because it's much more common, even in mainstream anime popculture (with purebred yuri shows like yuru yuri, sakura trick, etc. and generally more homosexual tension between females in anime, may it be for humour or not), while yaoi still has that underground tag (and some of those artists really need to polish their skills in drawing perspective and proportions), and only little representation in mainstream anime (off the top of my head, only samurai flamenco comes to mind, plus maybe male-dominated slice of life, like free! or tsuritama).

I find it hard to take this thread seriously.

There really isn't much incentive for a bunch of perverted straight dudes to post yaoi on this site; I mean, aside from anime subcultures, the only popular article where yaoi is relevant is yaoi hands, which is more of an article mocking yaoi rather than turning it into an actual form of arousal.

I'm not saying people should go out of their way to post more yaoi, but if you are into that stuff we should post more of it. You all will inevitably post more yuri in the end anyway, just would be nice to see people talking about a yaoi image that isn't because its a pairing of 2 of their favorite male characters being shipped so they go on a rant about how their life is ruined now

I guess I just don't look at yaoi as sexual thing and more just a cute thing. I don't look at yaoi for the porn factor, more just as a cute factor.

Being the one of the main people who post Yuri, I..actually..second this act. Being the 3000 year old white guy I am, I like Yuri for the obvious reason, but I also like the relationships in them, not just the, well, you know. (Boobies! :3) Yoai has some pretty hot guys and fun relationships, so I say we should try to get some more out there.

And lets be real homies, yuri and yaoi both are the cutest things ever.

Anyhow, I'm guessing most people here are straight males, so yuri obviously is going to get posted more, whether it's sexual in nature or not. The same can be said for your search results on Gelbooru, I assume.
If you want more yaoi, nobody's stopping you from uploading it.

IMHO I think you should focus less in stupid things and focus more on contributing in a meaningful way to the site.

In the end, it doesn't matter if yuri is more popular than yaoi. Neither of them are relevant for this site. We are just a meme wikipedia, if people wants to upload yuri then it's fine. It doesn't affect us in the slightest in terms of documenting internet phenomena.

Except for the fact that yuri & yaoi are not something exclusive from anime alone. And yaoi & yuri are not the only genres in anime/hentai/manga, you also have: futanari, lolicon, shotacon, etc. If we are going to make an entry about those, then it should be like the "internet Paraphilia" entry.
