If you’re in Brasil (Sao Paulo to be exact) internet scientist ElspethJane is going to be at a conference called ‘Social Media Brasil’ on Thursday, June 24 schooling some social media folks about “Virals and memes as a form of proliferation of content”.

If the conference logo is to be interpreted correctly, at some point the conference will be addressed by a blind octopus with nothing to say. Hail Cthulhu!

She might speak a little. I know she speaks French. But I don’t think she speaks Portuguese, which is what they speak in Brazil.

Anyway, I’m sure a lot of Brazilians speak English. Who knows, maybe there’ll be a translator for any foreign speakers they have.

I don’t speak any Portuguese, but they have translators at the conference.

The presentation will be more of a “Meme 101”.

Even after being here for one day, it’s an interesting environment because I’ve met many people that know about and understand Brazilian memes we’ve never heard of, but have no idea they have a name.

I’ve also noticed television is a huge factor in what becomes popular online.

Thank you! It’s been spend mostly indoors so far. Wheee!

I’ve asked that people either go to and join the discussion or they can tweet Brazilian memes we don’t have using the hashtag #kymbrazil. Should be interesting to see the response.

I hope you have a good time in BRASIL. Practice your Portuguese!

Too bad it was in São Paulo, too far from where I live. But I hope you had a good reception there.
