How much support does it take?

It doesn't do anything. In the end, the mods are the ones responsible for confirmation. "+1 confirm" does not actually do anything, it's just something we do to show our approval. It's actually frowned upon a little, it confuses newcomers (like is shown here).

Typically, if you have a nicely-written article and do enough research, you should message the Mods to help speed up the process. You can also create a new thread in the "Meme Research" section to have others review the entry and point out to those mods responsible for the confirmation/deadpooling of submissions that your article is good to go.
