Mafia! One Year Anniversary Edition!

I thought about it a bit. There are two outcomes to your request, RPP.

You die, you’re revealed as mafia,
You die, you’re revealed as sheriff.

In the first case, that would mean everything I have said is probably true and you’ve been screwing around with the villagers.

In the second case, I pretty much screw myself over because everyone will believe your words without a thought.

With these two in mind… I’ll take you up on your wager. I’m switching my vote to RPP.

Ugh geez, you guys. Can you not see this is clearly the Mafia’s plan?

I’m fairly certain that RPP is making the implications that he is the last sheriff. Considering that this is most likely his first game, I don’t think that he would really making this bold a move if he were in the Mafia (unless we’ve got some funky alt business going on around here.)

Getting back on topic, I think it would be a lot smarter if we voted off 404 this round as opposed to RPP. After all, if he really is the sheriff, sure he may have taken out three mafia, but there will still be two more. Assuming that noone has any idea who the last two are, after we kill off these three, we’ll be running around like headless chickens while they kill us off one by one, not forgetting to mention that we’d have killed off our last sheriff.

In conclusion, there will be a lot less risk involved in voting for 404 with the potential for greater reward in the long run. This is why my vote is for 404 .

PS: Please don’t make me have to type one of these long messages again. It is very annoying to have to do on this phone.

Some strange occurrences have transpired recently.

Slappy, you’re following RPP’s words because it provides the least amount of risk. I’ve already given a scenario in which RPP could be lying to us. In that scenario, the greatest amount of damage is done. Despite this, you still blindly follow RPP… Interesting. Could it be said that there’s a reason to this blind devotion? Are you working with RPP in some way?

And for that matter, what of the other two recent posters. They follow RPP, too. Not only that, but they posted at roughly the same time, shortly after Slappy. Is it possible this was a joint decision? A little more blind devotion? What reason would the three of you possibly have to side with each other?

Actually, I just have this thread subbed and my Email App was open while I screwed around on the interwebz. I got the emails for those posts and felt like casting my vote. Nothing too suspicious about that.

I find it kind of suspicious how Tim and Stargazer made their votes so shortly after Slappy. Stargazer gave us a reason, but it lacks. If he received Slappy’s PM in his email, then why didn’t he respond so quickly to RPP’s email? Not to forget it also took some time for him to respond to Bob. But I’ll leave those suspicions for later.

This day everyone’s basically given 2 choices.

  1. We kill 404. One mafia gone (hopefully), no further questions needed.
  2. We kill RPP (and leave 404 for the next day). This will create 3 scenarios:
    1. RPP is mafia. We discover it was a gamble on the mafia’s side all along. Knowing how some games ago I generated a similar scenario where a mafia made himself out for sheriff, this is certainly a possibility. We then kill 404 the next day. 2 mafia gone (hopefully), no further questions needed.
    2. RPP is sheriff. With RPP confirmed the second sheriff, there is no way we can doubt his claims. By sacrificing one sheriff, we in return get the identity of 3 mafia. Even RPP himself is willing to be a sacrifice.
    3. RPP is a villager. This means that he either A: Got too high on his horse or B: Was contacted by the real sheriff. But considering the pile of information he presents, this outcome has the least posibility.

Now let’s go back to the scenario in which we believe RPP and kill 404 now. Even if he is mafia, Bob and I still lack some evidence. All the evidence RPP presented was PM’s he sent to Bob and me. Mafia or not, I think it should be obvious Bob and I won’t be stupid enough to blow our covers through a PM if we’re indeed mafia. As said in the past, a good mafia is willing to cut off a broken leg. Sacrificing 404 will put RPP in a good spotlight and Bob and me in a bad one. The mafia will sacrifice 404 in an attempt to take out two more experienced players with him while making another mafia look innocent. A good plan and certainly a possible scenario.

RPP also wrote on the previous page:

“rush me with votes, dying would help my case better than living at this point.”

Even he agrees with killing him now. This is either a final shot at hoping his mafia plan will work. Or a failsafe as sheriff to proof himself correct through elimination. Either way, his death will give the answers we need and will give the villagers a huge advantage.

Well, I like how these guys are thinking. 404 can wait another day, RPP needs to go down now apparently. RPP has more of a case against him with all his posts. I say we get RPP out of the way now, then hopefully we get 404 next day phase.

Also, the villagers is losing horribly on the song contest right now. If you want to keep on playing, please submit more songs. I am considering that I should merge the villager lists, but it’s still less than what the mafia gave me. If you don’t want to have 2 dead the next night phase, please try to take the challenge. You won’t even need to listen to the whole song. Just skip, you might be done on 10 minutes.

I didn’t agree to the challenge, Mister J. I understand that some people who were here did when you presented the idea, but I did not. I don’t have any interest in it, and I sorta don’t think I should HAVE to have interest given that I didn’t agree to play this mafia with this challenge in mind. Had I known from the start, then I’d probably would have reconsidered playing.

Not trying to undermine you or insult the idea, but when a person gives the initial terms for a game, then I think they should be something you stick with throughout the game.

I’ll change my vote to RPP if I can still change my mind for this phase.

@RandomMan
A.) My App doesn’t pull mail in every second. There’s a five – ten minute delay on it if I don’t do it manually. But sometimes they come in at around the time they were posted, so I get in shortly afterwards to see what was said.
B.) I didn’t receive any PM’s from Slappy and I didn’t say I did… but I’m sure you meant to say something else.
C.) I don’t go OMG I HAS 2 RESPOND RITE DIS SEKUND, I take a minute or several to think if I want to respond (which I usually don’t) and if I do, I do, which I did.

And you know what, if you people really think I’m part of the mafia conspiracy, I change my vote to RPP to show I really don’t care that much and I just don’t want to risk a sherif is all.

I don’t think anyone truly agreed with the challenge, at least I certainly didn’t. We had some posts in the way of “Come at me bro!”, but I believe most of those were more dedicated to not make the player look suspicious. But even if we count them all, I doubt those posts took up the majority of players. Adding a challenge can be a fun idea, but it would be fair for all players to know they can expect a challenge when joining the game. But even so, I don’t see a music challenge being related to a mafia game. I’m not a music expert, by far, so I doubt I would ever agree to a music challenge in a mafia game. A mafia game is about planning and deducting, not about guessing songs.

Not to forget that in the course of the game, there were 3 major changes regarding the challenge. First the prize for the villagers changed into something better. Then Mister J made the villagers aware they’re losing, basically signing them to step up their game. And lastly he even considers counting up all the villager submissions. Whether you think I’m mafia from this or not, but Mister J’s actions regarding the game are pretty one-sided towards the villagers. I rather win or lose in a fair way.

Edit: @Stargazer

Yeah, I meant a post, not a PM.

Look, I’m a bit tired and stressed out right now, so bear with me, but I still see no logical scenario in which RPP could be mafia. I’m just saying that he is still too fresh to this sort of game to be creating a plan such as this without reasonable proof.

Besides, mafia killing mafia? Such a concept is flawed at the very core, regardless of whether or not doctor intervention occurs. After all, sure if the plan “works” all we’d have is a mafia that we think is a villager, but even that would last for a short while (please, don’t try to twist this into a ‘but then it will be too late’ situation, you guys…) And if it doesn’t work, they’d be down one mafia, thus putting them at a disadvantage. Also, such a drastic course of action as self-elimination would only be necessary if the accused has drawn a lot of attention to themself prior to the call. As far as I know, this is the first major course of action that has been taken by RPP, after the event. To me, this clearly means that RPP is worried because he knows he is important and he needs to mobilize now that he has the attention of the major players of the mafia.

Look, construe this as you will, but don’t forget that Random and Bob may be well-trusted experts within this game, but that also means that it is that much easier for them to manipulate the masses into their favour when necessary, since they have that much weight behind what they say.

Now that I think about it, bob and Random have really been truly participating after they were accused by RPP. Sure random may have tossed a comment here and there and bob launched a barrage of analyses at the beginning and then faded into the background, but now that they are being ‘exposed’, they have made great effort to attempt to save themselves, even though 404 is he one on the chopping block. This must mean that perhaps there is more validity to RPP’s claims then we allow ourselves to believe.

Please wait for Part 2

Sorry I had to cut you off Slappy, but time’s up.

RPP stood in front of the villagers and the mafia.

“I hope this is worth it” was his last words.

RPP was the last sheriff.
Also, before he died, he managed to get in a list of songs that contained 31 correct songs, beating that mafia’s 22 songs and enabling you guys to know a member of the mafia and preventing an extra death.

The mafia decided to reveal that 404 is mafia.

Total Player Count: 8 villagers, 2 doctors, 0 sheriff, 6 mafia, 6 deaths, 16 players alive.

Doctors and mafia, please get the PMs in. You can rest now RPP.

Shoutout to StarGazer who managed to find my secret list of songs.

Alright I’m back (I hate phones…)

Anyways, if there has not been an evident pattern corresponding to a plan going on in this day phase, allow me to attempt to fill everyone in. What is basically occurring is that random and bob clearly know that they have been found out either through chance, observation, or investigation. Now, these two, alongside 404, even though he has not yet participated in this day phase, are attempting to use the public to take down the one person who may be truly capable of deducing the last two mafia members, since they were unable to do so when it was within their power (the night phase).

Think of this, as you will, as a game of chess with a non-conventional rule set. I don’t wish to stereotype here, but imagine that the white team has one queen with the other pieces being pawns or whatnot (please, don’t attempt to make this into a ‘are you saying that we are all easily manipulable’ or however it could be made, I’m here for reasoning, not fun-house reflections) and the other team has 6 stealth units. Now the queen has managed to use her powers in order to (hypothetically) uncover three of the units, so now that their identities are out, they are attempting to destroy the queen through public revolt to ensure the safety of the last three, even if it means that they will die due to their actions.

Besides, there has been evidence pointing to Bob and subsequently Random since his mass analysis on Day One. There are a few points to cover, so I shall take you all through them one by one:

-When analyzing Random’s actions at the beginning, he first starts by making a slight criticism of the speed involved in his decision but then pulls back and ends his comment by putting him in a redeeming light for starting the votes. If it is to be assumed that bob and random are both mafia, then it would seem as if he is attempting to make a cover for Random due to how he handled his words and actions.

-Bob, in my opinion, tried heavily to discredit Ann on his accusation of BSoD, who we all know is confirmed mafia, and even made some dark humor on his behalf (“I say your name provides us with some clear foreshadowing to your fate,…”) Since that we know the identities of both BSoD and Ann, we can assume that Bob was making an effort to turn the public on Ann since he had been coming too close to revealing a mafia member.

-Bob attempted to bring some suspicion to seal for his decision to vote on me instead of BSoD. Beforehand, this could mean that he and BSoD were working together as mafia, but if we are to assume that Bob is mafia, as will likely be revealed on this day phase, then we could possibly say with a high degree of certainty that seal is not mafia.

-Bob even took the time to imply that RPP and Ann were working together as mafia. Since that we now know that Ann is not mafia, it, in my opinion, should probably be assumed that RPP is not mafia as well, thus meaning that this whole fiasco occurring today is a wilds goose chase with drastic consequences.

In conclusion, take from this what you will, even try to change it in your favour, but keep in mind that there is so much more evidence on the two primary subjects of my message (Random and Bob) being mafia then there is on RPP, who has voluntarily risked his life in order to accuse the giants of this game. Therefore, perhaps we should be honouring this brave little ursine not by ruthlessly killing him off for his beliefs, but by following his guidance, if not at least for one turn, in order to see if what he says is indeed accurate.

PS: What is the rule with PM sharing in this game again? I understand that there has been controversy in the past, but I just want to make sure that it (the rule) is out there so that no one makes a fool of them-self in times of desperation.

PPS: Damn I’m too late…

Well, now that it’s the night phase, I might as well just go through a few thoughts that I have.

-Of course, we now all know that random, bob, and 404 are mafia. However, I feel that it was rather cheap to allow the mafia to choose who to reveal. After all, I thought that the context of convicting meant that the civilian populace got to choose someone that they wanted to investigate. By giving the mafia the vote, you basically just gave us the opportunity to get absolutely nowhere since they could just reveal a confirmed member, which they did.

-I believe that Stargazer is a villager at this point. I must apologize for saying this, but that shout-out, alongside the fact that the villagers pulled a sudden victory, really make it sound as if he contributed a major list of songs to the villagers.

-Since we’re basically stuck in the mud at this point after we eliminate these three, I feel as if I should attempt to see what I can derive from the actions of others. I know this is old, but I still feel as if Alejandro is suspicious. At first, he acted really unorthodox, given his previous records in the forum, and then he fades off the grid altogether. This may have been because he was drawing too much attention to himself and needed to evade detection. I think that this is behaviour worth investigating (not that we can anymore…)

-I’m sorry to say this, but madcat could perhaps be mafia also. I don’t quite have conclusive evidence for this, but he only really started participating when J threatened to remove those who did not post, and even then he only posted votes. I’m not sure if this is due to personal issues or apathy, but I’m fairly certain that madcat has been a lot more active in previous games. Therefore, he may have been instructed by the mafia to lay low so that noone would look into him.

-While I’m here, I might as well say that Fridge Logic seems rather off too, although I will need to look more into his actions later on. Just keep him in mind for the time being.

This is all that I really have at the moment. I’ll try to figure things out more when we roll around to the day phase.

Edit: Okay, I just realized that Alejandro hasn’t been as inactive as I thought he was. I apologize for making such an accusation, but I still feel as if he is suspicious

Alright, I’m calling bullshit on this game.

Mr J, I’m sorry to say, but you are clearly biased. You’ve given the villagers every advantage possible without outright breaking the rules. Speaking of the rules, I’d like to quote this statement made by you:

  • “So for this game, I’m going to play by the very first set of rules.”

You’ve changed the original rules by allowing two sheriffs, two doctors, a sudden music challenge, a sudden change to the wager in said music challenge, and illegal distribution of information regarding the music challenge.

You’ve made so many changes, this isn’t the same game we signed up for.

And also, you gave a shout out to StarGazer for finding your “secret list of songs”. What is up with that? Did you have these songs on a list? Did StarGazer find that list? Wouldn’t that count as cheating considering the fact that you had made no mention of this list at any point?

The fact is, you’re biased in favor of the villagers. You’re not even making an attempt to hide it. I’d prefer to win a game fair and square, rather than a game where one side has little to no chance of winning.

Edit: And then StarGazer explains the list while I’m typing up this post. Alright then, that explains that. Still doesn’t change the fact that this game is biased.

I found the original mash-up online, and the guy that made it included a list of the songs in it. I told no one else about it and was provided no benefits for discovering it. Mister J didn’t think anyone else could find it, but I did and I made sure I notified him of that fact.

It was just an oversighted, unintentional loophole that no one was intended to find is all.

In all honesty, the “music challenge” was an obscenely stupid idea and it really bothered me when it was introduced, but I was too polite to say anything. So thanks to Bob for sounding off.

While I admit he did make this game quite a bit skewed, and he probably should be called out on it. Bob and opspe said legitimately constructive things, but for the rest of you, don’t just bandwagon if all you have to add is that he is a terrible GM or that you agree. If you have something more well thought out, go ahead and post, but let us not turn this into a flaming.
Look at the past games that went well, it seems he was trying to make this game more exciting. He simply didn’t think over what he added as much as he probably should have. As opspe said the game should just be kept to the OP rules as they are stated, and perhaps this game would just be better if it was over. We can have a new one later with basic rules and role sets.

We tried that in the past. We wanted to see how “cruising along” went without a lead to follow. In the past games, me, Bob, Opspe, Verbose and Blue Screen always took the game the most serious and showed the most activity. All five of us really loved the analyzing and the strategic planning to give yourself an advantage over the other side no matter what side we were on.

But a lot of other players were hardly ever posting. 1 post in the day phase to make a vote an no further info besides that or “I’ll go with X”, and 1 post in the night phase to cry or cheer for the player killed in the day phase based on his role. It was basically the “cruising along” you recommend. We of course noticed this as well.

So the last game before this one (quite a while ago already), all five of us decided to not play. This was no group decision, we all noticed the rest wouldn’t play and joined in. RPP wasn’t playing yet back then and Slappy was the host. I’m mentioning them as besides us they’ve shown the most analyzing besides us.

The game was a nightmare. There was hardly any activity. Nobody made a plan or thought his actions through. The average post had a length of 10 words or was complaining about the lack of activity while not being better himself. Without someone bringing the facts, they were just running in circles. Eventually people left because of boredom. In the end, one of the mafia decided to just give away the names of all his fellow mafia, which resulted in everyone quitting in anger. I still think Slappy deserves another chance at hosting because that game was just horrible.

So don’t blame us for pointing out the flaws.

The music challenge was a way of trying to get people involved. And it clearly didn’t work.
The reason the doctors and sheriff is doubled is because of the amount of people playing.
What happened with StarGazer is that he managed to find the place where I got my list. He told me about it, and decided that it wasn’t fair if it counted. I agreed, and promised him a shoutout.

Night phase, mafia decided to kill you.

To all:
I don’t think I need to say that the one killed was 404 user not found.
He was mafia.

PM time again. Doctors and mafia, if you will.

Total Player Count: 7 villagers, 2 doctors, 0 sheriff, 5 mafia, 8 deaths, 14 players alive.
I might start kicking for inactivity again. Between the last time I kicked to the next time I post (24 hours later), if you posted, you are safe.
