Kris has the closest answer. That image was posted to Reddit around 5 days ago by user Mrowl7. Reddit thought this was pretty funny, and you know how Reddit likes to use inside jokes a lot. Well, this has kinda blown up there and it isn't hard to find several uses of the term in various posts.

I’m still of the belief that until we have enough notable examples to prove spread and validity, there should not be an entry. As of right now, we have next to nothing to go on. So, I think we should hold off on creating the entry for now, at least until we have more proof of spread.

Thanks, that is most likely useful information.

Various examples on Reddit. I don't think I've found enough to warrant much official action, but I'll post more evidence as I find it. I've also seen many more examples than what I've listed here, but can't seem to find them right now.

(pretty descriptive and has links)

(quite predictably, /r/circlejerk picked up on this, but the posts have been noticeably lacking in material.)

I'm pretty sure that the image post on Reddit that I linked to earlier is what blew it up, although whether or not it will suffer a rapid and painless death has yet to be determined. The three posters in the Tumblr screenshot may have gotten the idea from a few different places. There is isobel_black's link above, as well as…

1) Woody in an episode of Cheers uses it closest to the way I have seen it being used:

2) The TV show That Mitchell and Webb Look had a program called Remain Indoors where they made elusive references to "the event":

These are the threads linked to by the comment I linked above. I'm talking about this one: http://www.reddit.com/r/circlebroke/comments/14d4vs/another_post_about_overused_jokes/. It is remarkably descriptive.

A comment in that thread links to this thread. Scroll down to the bottom. All of the posts that have been "hidden" say "not since the accident"
