Hentai

Although I personally don’t care much for hentai myself, I must admit that it has quite the presence in Internet culture. To tell the truth, I’m not quite sure if it’s deserving of an entry, so I wanted some opinions from other researchers about its popularity online, and whether or not hentai deserves an entry.

It would, of course, require extensive covering and clear NSFW warnings, due to the rather profligate nature of the content and art style of hentai itself, if created.

Who thinks hentai deserves an entry?

Hentai is not a meme.
If you’re suggesting a Hentai entry as a hub entry, we can just use the porn entry as the hub.

Given that we have entries for both Online Pornography and Anime, making one for Hentai seems logical. Hentai has relationships with both, so it’s not something you can add to one while ignoring the other.

So I’m going to stay neutral on this, while leaning towards go ahead. It would at least allow us to make mentions about the infamous genres without creating entries for it.

Please, people, do not downvote valid discussion. Especially not in Meme Research.

I would agree that an entry on it wouldn’t be bad to have, although needless to say the image gallery will have to be locked.

why did RandomMan and Evan get downvoted twice and MDF get upvoted twice?

First off Hentai is a meme under the definition of what a meme is.

Second: it has spread (no pun intended) IRL and on the internet.

Third: Random is right given that we have entries for anime, rule 34, online porn, etc. etc. there should be one for hentai

Sixth: I have always been told by senior Mods to “Go ahead and make an entry the only thing that will happen is, it’ll either get deadpooled or confirmed. So you might as well go for it.”

Fifth: if people can’t handle someone even bringing up any type of porn related entries at least talk about it and leave a response. OP was asking for peoples opinions on the subject and got downvoted for that by 2 people (or a troll with 2 accounts). It’s fine if people don’t like porn but let’s hear what you have to say on the subject. Don’t hide behind a downvote button.

EDIT: I agree with Chris locking pics and vidya would be a must

We could try to make one… but they are just styled as a part of Online Pornography…
that’s a hard request by Evan… really good thread to discuss.

That goes without question of course. Mods can unlock it each time they need to add an image to place within the article, and just relock it afterwards. It shouldn’t be much of a bother. OP can add what he deems necessary for documentation when he creates the entry before we lock the gallery.

We talked about genetalia and intercourse in a positive and allowing way, no way those users have experience with that type of stuff. Of course downvoting is the reasonable solution then.

If (and, as it would seem, when) I create the entry, I would think that not much more would be needed than sticking to the basics. I would include information about what it is, its history, its reception, its impact on Internet culture, its “fandom” in Internet culture, and the sub-memes inspired by or derived from hentai, or hentai-related subjects. I would obviously have to label it as NSFW and request for a moderator to lock the image gallery to prevent abuse of the site’s media regulations.

If only it could only limit editors to upload images.

I’m currently researching with my explicit content filter on, and writing a draft in a separate tab. I should be finished with my first draft within a couple of hours.

EDIT: It’s coming along nicely so far, from what I can tell. I already know that I won’t be able to find hentai pictures suitable for display in the entry, though. I’m currently on the History section, in which I am basically just summarizing hentai’s origin, sub-genres and demographics.

…Wouldn’t this technically be most fitting as a subculture?

@Der Fuhrer
I think it’d be best if we did NOT have anything in either gallery.

I plan on labeling it as a subculture.

ImmaHeMan wrote:

Whatever happens, please just… no porn.

Yeah, I can’t upload porn. It’s against site rules, so a moderator will have to disable image and video uploads for the entry.

hentai is very obviously a subculture, just look at the references

- i’ve seen enough hentai to know where this is going
- hentai woody
- hentai quotes
- rule 34/63

off topic: dear mods, see how there’s at least one downvote on each of evanhechenbach’s posts? if there’s a common ONE person doing all that, can’t you revert that unfair shit? not by upvoting to counter….but actually reverting the downvote
