I love this meme. I’ll research it more when I have the time to do so.

KNOCKED UP

NATIONAL TREASURE

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE

QUANTUM OF SOLACE

THE BREAK UP

Question is, is this meme IRL or Internet? You decide.

I say internet unless you can find it outside the internet.

It’s Internet. Creating annagrams is nothing new, but creating one from a movie title, and then editing the poster to reflect that annagram is done on a computer, and distributed online. Even if people were printing them out and pasting them up on buildings IRL, I don’t think that it would detract from the meme.

I’d say it’s legit and worth documenting.

The first SomethingAwful link you list is from 2003. I think there’s a strong likelihood that this started in the SomethingAwful forums just prior to that.

Wow. I spelled anagram wrong, thus, making Chris spell it wrong too.

Okay, I’ll get to researching all I can about this nao.

Something Awful has articles for video game anagrams as well.

Do you guys think I should just do a whole article for Anagram Photoshops?

Nah. I’m sure people have incorporated Anagrams into different photoshops independently of eachother. A good meme entry should be able to track a trend as it spreads from one place to another. I would probably just write it about Anagram Movie Posters, and include a footnote about Anagram video games.

I don’t know if it has something to do with this meme, but, while I was digging into generators for my Martine entry, I found what they call “Hollywood Poster generator”:

http://hollywood.logeek.com/ for instance and it’s far from being the only one.
