The National Anthem of YouTube

It’s a running joke I’ve seen for quite some time on YouTube videos, mocking the handful of songs commonly used as background music in cheap videos, like really crude and amateur tutorials. The two most common I can think of off the top of my head are “With a Spirit” and “Dreamscape,” both by 009 Sound System.

Urban Dictionary first defined it in December, 2011, and this blog post is from May of that same year. Wikipedia also has an interesting explanation as to why so many videos use 009 Sound System in particular.

We have an entry that adresses this. Could use some work though.

I figure the entry would be more about the comment meme and the concept of a YouTube anthem than the one particular song itself, since there are multiple songs considered to be the anthem.

when “Gangnam Style” first came out my friend described it to me a “the anthem of the internet.”
Considering its insane amount of youtube hits/popularity, I’d say it’s in the running.
