Is Tiger Woods a meme yet?

@Sam Lehman:
Personally, I wouldn’t consider it noteworthy yet as, so far, it hasn’t developed its own form beyond just the spread of voicemails set to music. When coming across media like this, we have to ask ourselves “will this be interesting or referenced weeks from now? Years from now?” Even if they are, will it really be that funny? Or will it end up being a completely weak meme?

If you get a chance, check out @Joefilms response to this thread about the coverage of memes in pop culture. What he says there is spot on. The internet is being flooded by media-driven events that, on their surface, look like traditional memes but really aren’t. They’re participatory or they have wide exposure, but after long, nobody remembers or cares. (Balloon Boy, anyone?)

As it stands now, I don’t expect this Tiger Woods thing to be remembered for much beyond it’s scandal. But I’ll keep watching as it develops, as it could change at any time.
