Okay, Hipster Mermaid/Hipster Ariel has been undergoing it’s review for some time now, I thought it would be a good time to see how Hipster Ariel matches up against Hipster Kitty.

Here is the Google Insight data for both over the last 30 days:
First, Hipster Kitty:

Hipster Ariel:

As we can see, Hipster Kitty enjoys many searches, while Hipster Ariel is puttering out. Could this be the calm before the storm for Hipster Ariel? or is it dying a quick Meme death a la Christian Bale Rant? and if the latter, is it because of it’s supposed “Forced Meme” identity? I would love to hear what my more experienced lads and lasses have to say on the issue.

Edit: Apparently, i can’t post Insight data to the forums, if anyone can, please do so, I’m feeling a wee bit stupid at the moment.

Sorry, you really can’t embed charts on the forums.

As for the comparison, it’s actually possible to overlap both search trends in one graph, you know?

See. Lately, Ariel is still more popular than the Kitty even though its popularity declined a tad bit as opposed to what you originally thought.

I’ve learned much already. Anyways, thanks Jostin.

My theory is this, Hipster Ariel will enjoy increased popularity over Hipster Kitty for a while longer, then it will putter out, and then be reborn as Hipster Disney Characters, we’re already seeing Hipster Jasmine and Hipster Pocahontas start to appear. as each new female Disney character is “Hipster-ised” it will result in a spike of popularity before settling back into equilibrium with Hipster Kitty. Many people regard this as a “Forced Meme” because it’s creator claimed it went viral on the first day, the 6th of Feb. The data for it however disproves this claim as it didn’t start trending until two days later, the 8th; However, it is still a meme albeit a spin off of an Advice Dog spin off, which will spawn even more spin offs of it’s own.

That is my theory at least.
