"KRAMA"

Yes, it’s a Karma-based thread, but not what you think.

I just want to know… how did the term “Karma” become “Krama” on this site?

Abra brought the two terms up in a different thread and it got me thinking. Anyone have any ideas?

And feel free to derail the thread afterwards. This thread will be dead after the answer.

I don’t have an answer, though I can tell you that it’s been the informal term for quite a while: I joined 6 months ago and people were using it then, too.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away someone misspelled a thread title as “krama” instead of karma. I think. I don’t recall who started it though. The joke got going for a week or so when a bunch of threads misspelled titles were made.

I actually invented “krama whroe” as the title of a parody thread and everyone just started using it a few weeks later.

SARSly appears to be the originator of Krama. In this thread: http://knowyourmeme.com/forums/site-related/topics/5989-how-is-krama-formed?page=1#forum_post_71370

It was probably a spin-off of “How is babby formed?”

A krama is a sturdy traditional Cambodian garment with many uses, including as a scarf, bandanna, to carry children, to cover the face, and for decorative purposes. It is worn by men, women and children, and can be fairly ornate, though most typical kramas contain a gingham pattern of some sort, and traditionally come in either red or blue. It is the national symbol too. It is use to be folded as a hammock, worn on neck and many other uses.

Learned TWO things today, now.

Thanks, RF.
