They are not. Of course some might argue that, but as a whole, most of us here want those images out of the gallery (you did read the first post right?)
However, we would like to put things in places they belong (if there is a place for them)
The top image would be moved to the Kill la Kill gallery (provided it is not already posted there)
The bottom image would be moved to either the Barack Obama or the Kim Jong Un gallery (again, provided it is not already posted there).
Also, I’m starting to flag images that may count as reaction faces, but we already have full entries on. If they are variants of that meme that are not already posted in that galley, I’m leaving a note to move to a specific gallery.

Yes, I have read all the posts. I was merely making a suggestion. It is good things are changing, hopefully all for the better.

I was just saying that as that was pretty much the whole reason this thread was created, to address all the images in the gallery that really are not reaction images.
Any who, should we bother with images that have really low votes (less than -3 or so)? Obviously if they are not reaction images tag them, but otherwise, I don’t see people wanting to use images that have really low votes so much. Same goes with images that are of really low quality (I’m referring to some of the oldest images that were bad screen caps, not stuff that is intentionally low quality for effects.)

I only asked because I thought I was going crazy by looking at non-reaction faces in the reaction face gallery. Just needed clarification I wasn’t.

After some time thinking about life and philosophy a question came to my head…who the hell is going to move/delete all this pictures?!

Could’ve told me about this, guys.

Alright I’ll go through these and start working on it once I get a free time slot. All help from other mods appreciated

I’m seeing a lot of images that definitely belong in other entries

Just try to if they aren’t already in those galleries, if you can. I’ve made notes on some images saying where they should be moved to or if they are already in the gallery they would be moved to (this is a tiny fraction of the whole however). I know sometimes it isn’t practical to go through all the images in a gallery though, just to see if the image was already posted, and I wasn’t able to do it for all the images that I know we have full entries on.
Thanks in advance.

@Jacob

That’s a good note: If you are tagging images with the NOT tag. It really does help me a lot of you note the reason why you feel it does not belong in the gallery and where it should be instead.

If you can: do note if the flagged image should be moved or deleted in the notes section. That makes it much quicker for me to go through all these tagged images

[edit]

Oh gawd, there’s just so many to move. So many images here that are entirely different memes. It’s as if people think Reaction faces is the general gallery for everything! Aaaaagh!

We should send a PM to the media mods who are still active. I know Unraveler and KZN02 are alive so we can send them a message asking for help.

Edit: Maybe we should ask to all to the mods who are still active to see if they can help. One person can’t deal with all those images.

I think it’s also important that we talk to specific users about choosing the right gallery. Two specific users on my shit list Misuse List is mario9919 and oskaraskov. It’s not like they have terrible judgement in choosing galleries or anything, but recently I’ve been seeing a lot images (especially in Reaction Faces) that don’t belong there originating from them (I think we can all agree that things like this and this aren’t reaction faces). I was planning on messaging them myself, but I wanted to make sure others agreed that these users need to be advised before I take any action. I’m pretty sure there’s at least one other user I wanted to personally address, but I can’t remember who it is. Chances are there are several users that mainly post images and nothing else like mario9919, so they aren’t aware of discussions like these going on in the forums and continue to churn out images in the wrong galleries.

When it comes to addressing specific people, just let me know who they are and what they are doing, I’ll send them a message.

When the message is coming from a senior mod, people are more likely to take heed

[edit]

Looking at the mario dudes gallery, most of his images look like reaction faces to me

[edit2]

A small reminder: A reaction face is a macro used to convey a specific emotion. That definition itself is pretty subjective so my focus isn’t on uploads that may or may not be a reaction face. I wont spend time trying to debate if an image really counts as a reaction face based on small technicalities.

Instead my main focus is on the images that definitely belong in other entries without question.

This should be in Yaranaika (moved).
This should be in Intensifies (moved)

Both those images could be considered reaction images, but at least it’s obvious that they are part of another meme and belong in those entries. People who might use them are more likely to look for them in those respective galleries, so they take priority for moving.

Hey, a little off topic, but since we are already on the subject of moving images to galleries that are better suited for them, can I work on flagging things in the Tumblr gallery. Obviously, most stuff of that gallery is from Tumblr, but there’s quite a few images that’s basically just existing meme’s/ subcultures that happened to be posted on Tumblr. Often times they do have Tumblr commentary, but I think putting images in galleries for that meme/subculture would be a better place for them than the huge unorganized mess that is the Tumblr gallery.

@Soundwave

I don’t have time to individually message the hundreds of people who’s images need to be moved.

If you are wondering why something of yours was moved while another that you feel is more deserving was not; that’s because these images are scattered all over the place and people can’t view them all at once.

If your Sixshot or Smokescreen images should have been moved as well, then tag them. I’m only looking at what’s been tagged

@Jacob

I suppose you can if you really want to, but I likely wont do anything about the tumblr gallery just yet

@jacob
I’ve been working in the tumblr gallery (it’s the only area i really work with). I actually go through and add tags to most of what gets posted. I thought the tags where what “organized” what’s posted. I’m not a fan of moving images out of tumblr, but i may be off base here as i really never talked to anyone about site rules.

I’ll state my case;
Since tumblr strongly revolves around fandoms, and sometimes other memes, i’m not sure how the tumblr image gallery could survive with that all that removed. I know sometimes people just upload random images there and i think they should go. But most of it involves comments or inside tumblr jokes about the fandom. Here’s a random example; [692077-tumblr] yes it has a character from Frozen, but the point of the post is the text beneath. The tumblr page itself even shows examples that include other memes, e.g. MLP, adventure time, homestuck, and yugioh as either “ask x blogs” or “single topic blogs”

If you’re going to move stuff, i’m willing to help you. But i do have questions.
Is there any base or archetype for what a tumblr image should be? How much text should there be? At least one line? What galleries have precedent over others? In other words(non-tumblr example); if you have a reaction face that is of a dbz character, where does it go?

Alright, I’ve been gone from this thread for a while. I have to ask though, other than tagging a large number of reaction faces with good source and reaction tags, did much good actually come out of this thread? A lot of images that were tagged as “Reaction:Not” that are images from things we have full entries on are still in the gallery (many of them very high up in the top rated images of that gallery as well). I know that “What constitutes a reaction face” can be subjective, but there’s still a bunch that I really have a hard time seeing any way it could be defined as a reaction face.

Moving some of the tumbr gallery I know would be rather subjective. However, the tumblr gallery has +5,800 images where as many of the other galleries I’d think they would fit better in are lucky if they have even 150 images. That exact Frozen example, while from tumblr, IMO would be better in the gallery documenting the spread of Frozen on the internet than documenting tumblr as a site. After all, though there is text beneath it, the text is pretty much still referring to Frozen. Meta images from tumblr (images from tumblr, about tumblr) I don’t think anyone would have issue with staying. Images about tumblr that may not be from tumblr are fine as well. Images without any commentary, with only being relevant to tumblr because “I saw it on tumblr” I think are pretty good to flag and change location if there is an existing entry. If its an image from tumblr with commentary and no existing gallery really suits it, I think it fine as is. After that though… it’s kinda hit and miss.

I personally might think this image suits the entry its in much better than tumblr, but others might not feel the same way (after all, the meme isn’t mentioned by name). However, it often feels like people just post things to the trending galleries for easy karma instead of contributing to parts of the site that could really use it more.

As for the question of: “if you have a reaction face that is of a dbz character, where does it go?” there’s the rub. I personally think that, since the Dragon Ball gallery has fewer than 300 images, versus the +21,000 images in the reaction faces gallery, it would do more good to have more examples in the Dragon Ball gallery (not to mention it is easier to see if it is a repost). Similarly, I think that a Crossover between Gurren Lagann and Mass Effect would do more good in either (or both) of those galleries than the alternative universe or crossover galleries.

Despite this, I even have differences of opinion on that. I know that there are a lot of examples of the special feeling meme (with ~300 images in the gallery right now), and a few of them are variants with Kantai Collection (right now 15 that gallery has images). However, as it is a specific meme, I think those variants (with tags) are better in the special feeling gallery.

Of course, all of this could be partially resolved by just reposting the same image in different (IMO more appropriate) galleries, but I feel kinda awkward farming KYM just to repost. I get a little bothered seeing other people do it, though I might not be so bothered if they would go ahead and copy the tags and the source along with the image. I also think it sorta encourages people to just post in the most popular galleries instead of adding more meaningful contributions.

However, having more people going out and adding appropriate tags is always a good thing, even if everything stays the same, so keep it up. I’ve added a huge number of tags to things this past week and know it can be a little unrewarding, but it makes it significantly easier to find things on the site.

Alright, Sam had brought this to my attention after I had post on some reaction face uploads about how I thought they were posted in the wrong gallery, seeing as they were memes we have full pages on. After reading BSoD’s post about: “So many images here that are entirely different memes. It’s as if people think Reaction faces is the general gallery for everything!” I was under the impression that images that could be used as reaction but were memes that we already have full pages on were to be discouraged. This was further backed up by a post by RandomMan in this thread referring to other memes the in the reaction faces galley “-a legit upload that is relevant to the gallery can be mistaken as irrelevant. Like Jacob pointed out in the reaction faces gallery, where reaction faces related to memes were uploaded before the meme entry was created.”

So, I’m curious on what the state of other memes in the reaction gallery is right now. Are they to be marked for removal, unless they were uploaded before the full entry for that meme was made (and are a legitimate reaction)? Are they acceptable provided they are actually a reaction face? Should we get rid of the ones that have were posted before full entries on those memes were made? Personally, I don’t think that they should be there (unless they were posted before meme’s entry was made) as it may encourage people to just upload variants of that meme to the reaction faces gallery. However, having the ones that were posted before the entries were made still kinda does this, but it’s not like the uploader could have uploaded it to the “correct” gallery at the time. I want to know what others (especially mods) think because this is something I have done quite a bit of.
