Encyclopedia Dramatica Sources

So every article includes the option to use Encyclopedia Dramatica as a source. Should we remove this option? They're website has been on the decline for some time now and just now when I went to their site I got 4 popups, one of which was for "Hardcore Porn." Maybe we could at least include a [NSFW] tag by it for default? Thoughts?

I don't really think Encyclopedia Dramatica is even relevant anymore. I've thought about this before too. When I can find one, I still add a link to Encyclopedia Dramatica to entries, but it really doesn't matter anymore and is kind of dated as a source. I think that if it could be replaced with a different site it should be either Tumblr or DeviantArt.

It's not too serious because anyone smart would stay away from ED. I lurk on it at times but I don't think the content or its pretty scarring popups is too serious if you know to stay away from it. Besides, who even goes on it for 'information'?

Well we list it under "Additional References," so people who don't know what the site is may wind up very surprised. I would say that the majority of users who click the link wouldn't actually know what the site is about, but that's just my guess.

Speaking of Referencing ED, I'd just like to say that my professor, a man with a PhD, quoted that site once. If a veteran researching like him could use ED academically, I don't see why we can't source it in a not-so academic researching website like this

Because that site is deader than dead. That wasn't my point though. I don't care if we remove it, I'd just like to see a [NSFW] tag by our links. Upon visiting it I was bombarded by pr0n popups. Not exactly something you'd expect since this isn't the 90's.

If your concern is with the pr0n ads, then it'd be best to have a nsfw tag for all links and not just ED because there are plenty of other nasty sites out there I'm sure. I totally agree with having a nsfw tag for sources (I do hope this pulls through though :/ )

A more personal solution to your problem that I suggest is install adblock. Got rid of the soft-pr0n ads here in KYM for me
