To avoid all of the idiocy that ends up in the Deadpool, how about making it so that a person has to be a member of KYM for a week before they can submit memes? Good idea, or not?

Wonderful idea, actually.
I suggested it as soon as we created user levels. We don't want to do anything that prevents a brand new user from creating an entry. Open submissions are open submissions. Some new users stop by with useful pieces of information on the first day.
But most…
My first entry was on my first day and it was confirmed.
Same with me but most new accounts are either mad to try to force a meme, insult someone, or submit something that is not a meme.
There has to be some sort of system put in to place. obviously not something that will discourage new users from joining but at least it will stop much of the crappy/spam entries.
How about if an account is under 30 days old, they have to get mod or admin permission to submit a meme.
Don't worry, we've been internally discussing the changes planned for the Submissions process.
It will mostly involve a better Submissions form that succinctly states what types of information we're looking for a user to provide in the entry.
In addition, we're planning on eventually setting up a system where meme-entry editing privileges can be granted to multiple users. That way, if something is half-way there but the author has abandoned the entry, we can open it up for other users to edit, kind of like a wiki but with invites.
And all of this is contained inside the existing system in place. Entries that are in Submissions have not been Confirmed. Whatever you find in the entire submissions section may or may not be a valid entry. That's why there's a Confirmed section.
The bottom line is that we don't want to prevent people from submitting, but inform them on how to provide usefull information.
Editing for abandoned entries would be great. Some good memes are just sitting in submissions limbo.
The editing thing is good, because there's a Slenderman entry that has everything there, it just needs a rewrite. I'm 94% sure that the author abandoned it.
Yeah, I just now checked on Slenderman. It looks like it could be a pretty solid entry after a rewrite. It always sucks when people abandon their entries.
These are features that are still being discussed and will take some time to be developed. Currently Jamie and Greg are getting the kinks worked out of the newest version of the forums, so we'll see that first.
In the meantime, Cooper, if you'd like to write up a new Slenderman entry I can always deadpool the old one later. The author hasn't been active in 3 months. He probably won't be updating it any time soon.
Ok.
While we're speaking of improvement: The link of the 'Advanced textile formatting tips button' is dead :(

Improvement, yes. An absolute necessity? No. But I think it would benefit KYM's meme section.
Hey, even one dead link is of putting to some people.
@Chris
I'm working on the new Slenderman article now.
@everyone else
Dibs on Slenderman article.
Another idea the next ver. of the database:
External Link Warnings (ED and 4chan have some nsfa (not safe for anywhere) content.)
Flagging on submissions. Make it so normal users can flag bad submissions to bring them to the attention of the mods and admins at a faster rate.
