how did this all begin?

Started 2 years ago, when we took our overflowing love of internet memes & wrote 10 “Internet Memes of 2007” Rocketboom episodes -- here’s the first two:
Yatta, Ellie & I kept making them every now and then over the next year or so and they lived at http://www.rocketboom.com/category/know-your-meme
I’d also been kicking around the idea of building a dedicated Internet Meme Database website for a few years now… seemed like a good fit for the show! I got some free time and threw the first version together during Dec 2008, just in time for another 2 weeks of KYM episodes over the Xmas break
There were already similar sites: Dramatica, the dipity Meme Timeline, Macrochan (for images), YTMND wiki… but nothing very objective, nothing complete, and -- most importantly -- nothing under active development.
We’ve got big plans for this thing and are glad to have you guys onboard!
