50 Cent Drive By

About

50 Cent Reactions refers to animated GIFs or video clips of the rapper 50 Cent staring at someone in bewilderment, before smirking in a condescending manner and driving away. Most notable for its display of formidable swagger, the 50 Cent GIF has been frequently used in mash-ups and reaction images.

Origin

The original footage comes from the HBO comedy-drama series Entourage in Season 6, Episode 3: "One Car, Two Car, Red Car, Blue Car," which originally aired on July 26th, 2009 and featuring cameo appearance by Curtis Jackson, better known by his stage name 50 Cent. In the episode, 50 Cent drives up next to Turtle's (played by Jerry Ferrara) convertible Ferrari at a red light, pokes fun at his car before driving away:

Curtis: Yo Turtle.
Turtle: Yo Curtís, what's up!
Curtis: Sup man, I see you out here in yo daddy's car…
Turtle: …
Curtis: Don't be somber… At least you look good. Nuhahahahaha-- (drives away)

"Fitty Cat"

One of the first GIF iterations featuring a driving cat (in place of Turtle) was posted on social bookmarking sites like Digg^[1] and Reddit^[2], as well as the BodyBuilding forums^[3] in early August 2009. Dubbed "Fitty Cat," it was also reblogged by Unbored Me blog in late September 2009.

Spread

The Bodybuilding forum thread spawned a handful of derivatives featuring well-known characters like Kermit the Frog, Mario and Pedobear among others.

Throughout 2010, Kermit the Frog iteration was reblogged via Tumblr^[5], AwesomeGIFs^[6] and YTMND^[7]. Meanwhile, the original clip from "Entourage" became adopted as a popular reaction face in comments and forum threads, usually in the context of dissing someone else's comment.

Rebecca Black Version

In March 2011, Rebecca Black's Friday soared to the top of YouTube videos, spawning hundreds of animated GIFs based on the music video. One of the more popular mash-up instances paired up 50 Cent's reaction face with Pato the rapper and producer of "Friday."
