A Cat Will Too is an image macro and edit meme based on a panel from the self-published manga That's Why I Assault Ren. In the book, the protagonist, a pedophile, attempts to assault a child. When he's turned down, he threatens to sexually assault a cat, saying, "A cat will do." Many online have used the phrase to joke about potential sexual partners and the panel from the book for an image edit series.

Origin

In 2000, the self-published manga That's Why I Assault Ren was released.^[1] After the main character's advances toward a child are rejected, the character turns to his cat and says, "A cat is fine too." The final two panels of the manga see the character removing his pants and a closeup of the cats eyes as their face drips with sweat. The cat's thoughts are captioned, "I'm done for…" (shown below).

Spread

Many of the early examples of this meme have been lost, but many feature references to the phrase "a cat is fine too." These versions often recontextualize the meaning, removing the sexual implications from the book (examples below, left and center). On June 23rd, 2009, the Wordpress^[2] site Cat Macros published one of the earliest examples still available. In this example, a cat is edited on the meal tray of a boy on a plane.

The meme also appeared in various video interpretations. For example, on July 3rd, 2010, YouTuber RandomOfAmr published a video from the anime Bakemonogatari 14 that features the phrase. The post received more than 2 million views in less than 11 years (shown below).

Among the most popular form of the meme comes from image edits, in which a memer replaces the depiction of the cat or the main character in lieu of another (example below, left). Additionally, some memes feature the phrase as a snowclone, replacing the cat with other animals.
