About

Keenan Cahill is a YouTube celebrity known for his lip dub videos in which he enthusiastically lip syncs various pop songs. He gained much of his notoriety after releasing a lip dub of the song "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry in August of 2010.

Online History

On April 4th, 2008, Cahill's first YouTube channel BeenerKeeKee1995[6] was created, which featured several videos of himself lip syncing and dancing to pop music. On February 19th, 2009, the Internet culture blog Urlesque[7] included one of Cahill’s videos in a post titled “Best YouTube Lip-Synch of the Day”, though it has been since removed. After abandoning his first channel for unknown reasons, Cahill created the BeenerKeeKee19952[1] channel on October 25th. The first uploaded video featured Kahill singing the song "When You Look Me In The Eyes" by the Jonas Brothers (shown below, left). On August 28th, 2010, Cahill uploaded a video of himself lip-syncing the song "Teenage Dream" by pop artist Katy Perry (shown below, right).



On September 2nd, Katy Perry sent Cahill a tweet[4] saying "I heart you." On September 9th, Urlesque[5] published a post titled "Katy Perry Lipsync Kid Keenan Cahill Gets Internet Famous", which reported that the "Teenage Dream" lip dub received over 3 million views within one week. Within two years, the video accumulated over 54 million views and 195,000 comments. On October 23rd, 2010, the "Official Keenan Cahill" Facebook[8] page was created. On November 15th, Cahill registered the domain for the website KeenansRoom[10], which featured videos by Cahill and other YouTubers within his network. As of July 2nd, 2012, Cahill has received over 585,000 subscribers and 415 million views on his official YouTube channel, over 185,000 followers on Twitter[9] and 200,000 likes on Facebook.

Media Appearances

On March 12th, 2009, Cahill appeared on Chicago's WGN morning news, where he performed a live lip dub of the song "What Hurts the Most" by Cascada (shown below, left). On March 23rd, Cahill was interviewed on the Chicago radio station B96, during which he discussed what inspired the creation of his YouTube channel.



On November 8th, 2010, Cahill appeared on the talk show Chelsea Lately (shown below, left), where he debuted a lip dub of the song "Down On Me" featuring a guest appearance by rapper 50 Cent (shown below, right). Within two years, the video received over 46 million views on YouTube.



On June 28th, 2012, the music news blog Fuse published an interview with Cahill, in which he discussed the history of his YouTube career and announced he was working on an album.



Notable Videos



David Guetta Lip Dub

On January 24th, 2011, Cahill uploaded a video featuring a lip dub to several remix tracks by the French house music producer David Guetta. Within 18 months, the video received over 30 million views and 65,000 comments.



Smart Water Commercial

On March 7th, 2011, Cahill appeared in an advertisement for the bottled water brand Smart Water titled "Jennifer Anniston Sex Tape", in which he lip syncs the song "Like a G6" by the American hip hop quartet Far East Movement.



Glee Cast Lip Dub

On July 5th, 2011, Cahill uploaded a lip dub video of "Last Friday Night" by Katy Perry, in which he was joined by several members from the cast of the musical-comedy television series Glee. Within one year, the video received over 3.2 million views and 15,000 comments.

Personal Life

Cahill was born with Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome, a metabolic disorder that typically results in a physical appearance similar to dwarfism. According to Med Page Today[3], Cahill underwent a bone marrow transplant in 1997 in order to slow the progression of the disease and has had surgery to alleviate pressure on his brain.
