About
Robert “Budd” Dwyer was the Treasurer of the state of Pennsylvania that was convicted for bribe in 1986, though admitted in trial that he was framed. On January 22, 1987 during a press conference, Dwyer comitted suicide by shooting a revolver through his mouth. This took place just a day before his sentence.

IRL Impact
One of the ealiest impacts of the song was the 1994 reissue cover of the hardcore punk band Neurosis’ debut album Pain of Mind, which featured an image of Dwyer about to insert the revolver into his mouth.

Another one includes the 1995 song Hey Man, Nice Shot by Industrial Rock band Filter. It was revealed that the song was about the suicide when the band was interviewed by Addicted to Noise magazine.

Internet Impact
When Youtube and other online video sharing sites became active, the video of the suicide managed to find its way onto the web, and had become a common shock video. People have posted videos showing reactions to the suicide, much like what people have done with the infamous 2 girls 1 cup video.
