Bullshit man is an image macro that frequently appears on facebook, primarily after an article or news post, or pictured under an explanation or excuse given by a public figure who the poster dislikes. It depicts British TV and radio personality Karl Pilkington, with an accusing finger extended and the caption : “Bullshit.”
The meme originated from the second series of the Sky television program “An Idiot Abroad, (orient express)” when the host, Pilkington, known for his frank and to-the-point answer to questions, was asked what sort of superpower he would like to possess.
After some thought, he said he’d like a power he’d made up. He’d loke to be “Bullshit Man,” a superhero who would fly in to business meetings and car dealerships and announce “Bullshit! You’re talking Bullshit!”, before flying off to rescue another hapless citizen from the thralls of clouded meaning, thus making the world a fairer and more honest place to be.
The image has since been captioned and appropriated for use in comment sections that allow image posts. There has also been a variation of the post in the form of the Bullshit Man Poster, a movie style poster featuring Pilkington in full Bullshit Man costume flying dramatically through the air. There has been a trailer produced for this imaginary film which uses footage of Pilkington and special effects to fashion a short backstory for the origins and adventures of Bullshit Man.
This is only one of many memes to be derived from Karl’s antics, including “Knob at Night,” and references to him possessing “a head like a fucking orange.”
