“Can X see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?” is a snowclone based on a memorable line from commercials for the aforementioned cereal. The phrase is often seen in image macros, where “X” is substituted with various characters. It generally takes the snowclone form “X can see Y / But can he/she see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?” The phrase is also frequently used on image boards and social media websites.
The phrase originates from 1990s commercials for Cinnamon Toast Crunch, a cereal produced by General Mills. The commercials featured children asking adults to explain why children enjoy the taste of the cereal, implying that the adults know much less than they let on. The line leads into the cereal’s slogan, “The taste you can see!”
The line began to gain popularity on the Internet in late 2012, spreading to sites such as 4chan, FunnyJunk and Reddit. Several Facebook pages for the line have been created, with the most liked of them having 118 likes as of November 2012.
