Durarara!! Ending Parody

Durarara!! Ending Parody (Japanese: デュラララ!!EDパロ) refers to a series of parody videos and fan arts for the first season ending movie of a Japanese TV anime series Durarara!!.^[1]

Many illustrators, sometimes cosplayers, have been replacing characters from this ending sequence with characters from other anime or their cosplay.

Origin

The TV animation series of Durarara produeced by Brain’s Base^[2] was aired in Japan from January to June in 2010, and this ending movie had been aired in the first half.

The feature of its ending movie is the posing of characters drawn serially in one very long illustration.

The song for this movie is “Trust Me” by Yuta Matsushita, a Japanese R&B and Hip Hop singer and performer.^[3]

Spread

This ending movie got a much favor with viewers, especially among amatuer illustrators. They immediately began creating its parodies just after it was aired.

According to Nico Nico Pedia^[4], an internet encyclopedia for the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND), the first instance of this series was posted to there in January 16th, 2010.^[5] This video entitled with “Inanana!” features the characters from a Japanese video game/anime series Inazuma Eleven.^[6]

Even after this, many people are posting their videos and illustrations to NND and pixiv, a Japanese social network service for illustartors. In the results, both NND and pixiv have more than 1600 creations.^[7][8]

Outside Japan

People outside Japan also jumped into this fad’s bandwagon. Over 1200 videos on YouTube are mainly reuploaded from NND, but some of them are made in outside Japan.^[9] And deviantART has over 700 creations related to this series.^[10]
