Betty is a character in a Cartoon Network show called “Adventure Time”. She had first appeared in a picture in the episode “Holly Jolly Secrets: Part II”. The staff of the show had confirmed an episode about Betty after she was first introduced. On January 30th, 2014, MSN.com published an episode with the cryptic title, “Betty”. The synopsis was something that seemed fake, and was dismissed as such, but then, everything changed when a Twitter user asked Jesse Moynihan, a storyboard artist, about it’s legitimacy.
Soon, through Twitter, storyboard artists for the show, instead of denying the episode’s existence, merely ignored it. Tumblr immediately went ablaze, with reactions gifs for the synopsis given. The inferno was dubbed ’The Bettypocalypse".
Tumblr users began to post images of characters with Betty’s face pasted where the characters’ face should be. It spread more and more, to the point where the picture itself was updated with comical effect. Still, users were doubting the episode’s existence.
In February, more reliable sites began posting information about the episode, and soon, the most reliable source, Comics Continuum, revealed that the episode was real, and posted a synopsis nearly identical to the one MSN posted.
Soon, the episode scheduled for February 10th was overshadowed in the light of Betty. Fanfictions were written, gifs were used, and soon, pictures were produced.
Also, this very article was posted on Tumblr, and that’s why you’re reading it, so, remember, FEBRUARY 24TH!
