Gay Coffee Guy was created by Hatena Haiku user MixerSilvera(aka Sweet Bean Kuma), while she was playing the Adult Swim game Amateur Surgeon. The"Gay" part of the name came from the fact that due to his appearance, many fellow users on the website said he looked gay. The "Coffee Guy" part is obvious.
Since then, it has become quite popular around the site, gaining two different variations, often appearing in demotivational posters, and ever making its way into memegenerator.
