About NASA Moon Bombing
On Friday morning of October 9, 2009, two of NASA’s LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) objects successfully crashed into the Moon’s surface. Popularly dubbed “Moon-bombing” by the media, the lunar mission was designed to kick up a huge cloud of lunar dust that would hopefully contain some water or ice.
About Hi-Five Denied Guy
While all that was going on near the Moon’s surface, ground operations at the NASA was broadcasted through live-feed on their website. Near completion of the LCROSS mission, one NASA employee (in red shirt) held up his hand for a high-five with another colleage (black shirt), who promptly looked at him, shook his head and walked away. Catching the wind of this high profile faux-pas as it was happening, internet users quickly dubbed him the “High Five Denied Guy” and vowed to find him and give him a proper high-five that is overdue.
NASA Moon Bombing FAIL
In weeks leading up to the morning of LCROSS operation, the event was highly publicized by NASA as a spectacle to be witnessed from Earth. Unfortunately, the actual plumes of lunar dust was hardly picked up by recording devices and there were no striking photographs of the crash or the plume. It worked, but it was no sight of the century or anything.
