I Did it for the Lulz (also known as 4 the lulz) is a popular catchphrase used to express that one carried out a specific action for the sake of personal comic enjoyment. This is sometimes used to to explain why one has posted offensive, far-fetched or disgusting contents on image boards and discussion forums.

Usage


Exploding Van: Did it for the Lulz, Y’all

Since the catchphrase is used to create a humorous juxtaposition between the image and the text, the more grave the content of the post, the greater the irony of “doing it for the lulz” and ultimately, the greater the lulz. As such, “for the lulz” image macros typically feature references to offensive subject topics including the Holocaust, suicide, murder, terrorism and rape.

It seems, though, that the spike doesn’t match up with the original post date of the video. It’s off by a good five months. And, based on the main “Anonymous on Fox11” video’s stats, there is no sudden spike for views (i.e. the video didn’t get linked and suddenly take off nearer to December 2007).

At any rate, anonymous got really pissed at Lori Drew, and eventually made a new message on her answering machine or voicemail or whatever saying that Lori did it for the lulz. I guarantee you that’s what the spike is from.
