This is notable as it is a ridiculous explanation for putting a $1.5MM+ supercar into standing water on a seemingly straight road.
The author of the video explains from first hand talk at the site and being on site of the rescue of the car that the driver was on the phone, saw a pelican, dropped his phone (perhaps reached for it, this is not clear), hit a patch of mud with one tire and turfed the very capable all wheel drive automobile.
There is much speculation as to whether or not he was speeding as the car has a rear spoiler that activates during high speed, has to be set for high speed runs, or can just be put up or down with a switch.
Only the driver knows whether he was speeding excessively or not and whether there truly was a pelican or not.
This soon will be a silly explanation for spectacular accidents or disasters around the net.
"I was avoiding a pelican"
Sure you were.
*UPDATE* November 13th, 2009 a video was uploaded onto Youtube with actual footage of the car going into the lake.

No pelican visible. Predicted to be either a mediocre elaborate publicity stunt as the driver is reported to own Performance Auto Sales (Andy House) which just so HAPPENS....ready?...to specialize in supercar salvage restoration.
