About
Internet Tough Guy (ITG) (also known as "E-Thug") is a pejorative term used to refer to an online commenter who threatens physical violence against other posters when confronted with criticism or trolling. Often found on message boards and blogs, typical actions of an ITG involve boasting about their physical strength and degrading critics with insults.
Origin
The earliest known use of the phrase appeared on the Elite Fitness[1] message board on May 13th, 2002, when forum member SSAlexSS asked other board members about the purpose of powerlifting exercises. In response, member t3c responded that SSAlexSS was ignorant about proper training methods, and referred to him as an "Internet tough guy" (shown below).
Spread
On November 21st, 2002, the phrase "Internet Tough Guy" was used in a post on the roller coaster enthusiast forum CoasterBuzz,[2] paired with the abbreviation “ITG.” On January 23rd, 2004, an entry for the abbreviation "ITG" was created on Urban Dictionary,[3] five months before the full phrase was added to the site.[4] On January 27th, 2004, SomethingAwful[5] creator Lowtax published an article breaking down the traits of an internet tough guy (shown below).
On August 5th, 2009, the Internet humor site Cracked[8] published a history of internet trolling, noting that a stereotypical Internet Tough Guy would offer up a physical address where other posters could meet him for a real life duel. The first archived 4chan[9] thread from the /b/ (random) board mentioning the phrase was posted on May 3rd, 2007, in reference to a raid on the virtual avatar site Subeta. The phrase was also used on the /v/ (video games)[11] and /x/ (paranormal)[12] boards that year. Since 2007, more than 4700 threads have been archived with the phrase.[13] People have also used the term as a way of calling out users who fit this persona, which can be seen on MiltownKid.com[14], a personal blog, and writing forum BunnyRabbitSex.[15] There is also a TV Tropes[6] page and a Tumblr tag[7] for Internet Tough Guy related content.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch?
I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

I've seen this term so much!
+1 work
I've seen this term and the actions it describes everywhere, but this article is fairly lacking.
+1 work and you'd better do it or God help me I will find some way to stab you through my monitor.
+1 Work.
And pardon me for saying this, but can we please keep Dolan and MLPFiM OFF this page? The flame-war is bad enough when it's on their respective pages, and this page seems absolutely ripe for the war spilling over.onto it, which is the last thing any of us want, I'm sure.
Hear this constantly… and say it occasionally <.<'

Can be shortened to "Say that to my face, fucker"
@Fry
“Oh no!”
Best response to an internet threat, aside from “Do it faggot”.
@Flare Dancer:

I haven't actually heard this term much before, but I know EXACTLY the kind of noob that it's describing.

My absolute favourite is when they want your address.
Yes, because you want to spend hundreds of dollars to get to me and then be imprisoned in a foreign jail for assault. Sounds like a fun time, guy.
Regarding the "I'm a Navy Seal" copypasta, I had a guy the other day threaten to kill me over some trolling I did on his profile.
He was all like, "I've got five confirmed kills and YOU'RE NEXT."
I copy/pasted the "300 confimed kills" rant.
His reply, "Sorry, sir!"
LOL
I just want to point out that the kid in the thumbnail on the homepage will give your business REAL muscle. (If you live in Australia and ever went to see a movie at Event Cinemas, you'll know what I'm talking about.)
The copypasta is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
Excuse me, but just who in the fuck do you think you are? YOU, bossing ME around? Suck a trillion dicks. I don't have to do a single motherfucking thing you tell me. You think your hot shit mouthing off to me but I bet if we were face to face you'd change colors quicker than the fucking Aroara Boaryalice.
Just try opening you're fat mouth in front of me again, I FUCKING dare you. I can bench press 700 pounds, I drive a top of the line Lambergini and I get more pussy than Walt Chamberlane. You on the other hand watch moeshit, sleep with a waifer pillow and have a gut so huge it makes Homer Sampson look mall nurished by comparison.
I just know your going to reply to this with "LOL U MAD". Your fucking andissipating my reply. The second you post that outdated cumback I will track you're IP, find out where you live and tear you a new arsehole.
Fuck. You.
The copypasta are hands down the best part about this meme.

I know a Internet Tough Guy with mental problems. His name is LifeInATent.
"Gorilla" warfare, eh?

Dealing with one of these dudes now. His sarcasm detector is so bad he didn't even realize I was making fun of him when I replied to him with the Navy Seal copypasta.
