In the morning of July 16th 2009, an anonymous user started a new thread titled “Jia Junpeng, your mom is calling you to come home and eat.” at a Chinese World of Warcraft forum. The content of the post contained only “rt”, which is the equivalent of “no text”.
In a few hours, the post received over 390, 000 views, and almost 17, 000 replies. By the next day, the numbers reached 7.4 million
views and 300, 000 replies. Forum members would also rename themselves to be members of Jia Junpeng’s family.
