About

The Jewish Internet Defense Force (JIDF) is a pro-Jewish/Israel activism site, that often uses social media to target any anti-Semitic or Jihadist propaganda and to push the sovereignty of the Jewish state of Israel. They have often been criticized for these actions and has resulted in anyone expressing pro-Israel opinions to labeled a JIDF shill, most noticeably on /pol/.

History

The earliest history of the JIDF can be traced back to 2000, where it began as a grassroots campaign where massive e-mails were sent out, in response to the outbreak of the Second Intifada. The modern JIDF was created in 2008 as a result of the 2008 massacre at the Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva in Jerusalem. The owner of the JIDF is known under the alias of "David Appletree*, and has often accused Facebook administrators of anti-Semitsim for deleting his account (it breached Facebook's "real name culture). Appletree maintains 40 Facebook groups to combat anti-semitism and terrorism. The JIDF is often labeled a "private, independent, non-violent protest organization", according to the website.

Criticism

The JIDF has been at the center of controversies since its inception.
