John McBlaine was created as opposition to run against the ever so popular Brock Obama. He first appeared on Facebook in early 2011, taunting and challenging Brock and his political views. John is the Republicanth candidate for Pokéresident, whereas Brock is the Delictatic candidate. John McBlaine is a play on John McCain(ran against Barack Obama in 2008) and Pokémon Gym Leader Blaine (Brock is also a gym leader). On some of his posts, he refers to himself using different words and phrases used by John McCain in his 2008 campaign, most frequently using "my friend(s)" to refer to other people. He seems to play the part very well, acting like a douche at many times.
